Full-Time Community Engagement Manager

Job Description

The Purpose:       
Manchester United Foundation believes every young person should feel empowered to achieve their goals and uses the power of football and Manchester United to support young people to make positive choices in their live.This leadership role heads up the community team with the aim to engage local communities in the highest social deprivation areas to inspire and support young people to see and believe in their potential. This is achieved through two key strategic objectives:

  • Creating an inclusive and accessible social football offering.
  • To provide targeted activities that supports a young person’s development.
The Role
  • To work with the CEO and the Operations Director to develop, review and a deliver a community engagement strategic plan.
  • To provide strategic direction by researching and identifying potential funding, partnership, and programme development opportunities.
  • To oversee the planning and delivery of community engagement services and events to partners and programme participants.
  • To lead, manage, mentor, and support community engagement staff ensuring they continue to deliver the highest standards of care, supervision, safeguarding and service.
  • To build strong and effective partnerships within the parent club, internally and with all external partners for the betterment of the Foundation as a whole and to support the community engagement objectives.
  • To work strategically across all Foundation departments to identify and develop qualitative programmes and workshops in line with the objectives of the department’s objectives.
  • To be responsible for the community engagement department’s approved budgets to ensure that allocated internal funds and external funding streams are maximised against agreed programme activity and objectives.
  • Knowledge of Greater Manchester and national legislation, policy and statistics. regarding which have an impact on the strategic direction of the Foundation’s work in the area of community engagement.
  • Ensuring everything is done safely, fairly, effectively, and efficiently (strong governance).
  • Planning and delivering is to the best of standards (high quality).
  • Capture the success and impact of your work (monitoring and evaluation)
  • Responsible to safeguard the welfare of children and adults at risk.
The Person

Experience and Knowledge

  • Minimum of three years practical experience of working with young people in areas of deprivation.
  • Scoping, delivering, and evaluating a range of community programmes.
  • Raising the profile of a programme and becoming a thought leader.
  • Knowledge of Premier League Kicks Programme.
  • Knowledge of deprived communities.
  • Knowledge of National, Regional and Local Community Organisations.

  • Ability to engage with a range of stakeholders to achieve strategic and contractual objectives.
  • Organisational and communication skills (written, verbal and listening).
  • Think strategically in the context of, and alignment with, wider existing objectives and partnerships.
  • Inclusive leadership able to create and develop a high performing team.
  • Financial Management (Planning, organising, directing, and controlling financial activities).
  • Ability to capture the success and report on the impact of your work.
  • To want to make a positive difference to young people.
  • Hard working, enthusiastic and reliable.
  • People Skills (Self-assured, build rapport, empathise with others, emotionally intelligent, approachable.
  • Understanding of safeguarding best practice.
  • Knowledge of implementing policies and procedures especially health and safety and risk assessments.

Education and Qualifications

  • A full UK driving licence with access to own car for business use.
  • Recognised coaching qualification – Desirable
  • Educated to degree, HND level or A level equivalent – Desirable
