Full-Time Community Based Grief Counselor
Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY
The Community-Based Grief Counselor at Judi’s House: participates in the development of the clinical milieu, leads and offers guidance to the support group process, conducts psychosocial assessments, provides individual and family counseling, shares therapeutic expertise in order to provide best practices in grief support for children and their families, aids in the professional development of interns, offers support and guidance to the research initiative, and conducts community outreach opportunities.
The Community-Based Grief Counselor works 40 hours/week September 1 to May 31 and is eligible for Judi’s House benefits year round. The start date for this position is September 1, 2022.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES SOUGHT
- Two years post-master’s experience in grief counseling/support AND/OR child and adolescent counseling/therapy
- Experience providing therapeutic services in community settings
- Experience conducting assessments and providing support services for children and their families
- Effective communication and public speaking skills
- Experience with grief, loss, and trauma as they relate to serving bereaved children and families
- Familiarity with diverse populations and local community resources
- Spanish-speaking fluency highly desired
EDUCATION OR FORMAL TRAINING
- The Community-Based Grief Counselor position is a Colorado licensed or licensed-eligible mental health professional with a minimum of a master’s level education in social work, psychology, therapy, counseling, or related field.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Clinical
- Meet regularly with the Community-Based Care Manager for clinical and organizational supervision
- Attend and participate in regularly scheduled department meetings
- Facilitate community-based grief groups as assigned
- Conduct individual and family grief counseling sessions as assigned
- Participate in the client intake and assessment process
- Assesses individuals and families for the most clinically appropriate therapeutic services available
- Assist Grief Care Coordinator with community-based referrals as appropriate
- Support training and volunteer efforts through recruitment, interviewing, orientation, etc.
- Ensure quality and effectiveness of groups by adhering to the established curriculum
- Participate in additional activities as assigned (e.g., Memorial Event, Teen Photo Showcase, Hope for the Holidays, etc.)
- Provide a minimum of one clinical in-service training per training cohort
- Responsible for maintaining clinically accurate and timely record management
- Responsible for participating in Continuing Education Units (CEU) in accordance with DORA and licensing requirements for current biennium
- Work in a collaborative manner within the treatment team and throughout the organization
- Provide consultation and clinical support for crisis assessment and intervention as assigned/needed
- Licensed staff provide one hour of clinical supervision per week, per assigned trainee
- Oversee the clinical and professional development of trainees based on collaborative roles (e.g., co-facilitating groups, interview presentation, client consultation)
Research and Evaluation
- Evaluate program effectiveness through observation, experience and gathering feedback
- Participate in data collection as part of standard intake and follow-up procedures
- Assist in development and oversight of the program curriculum, activities and materials
Community
- Provide in-person and virtual grief education workshops to community members, professionals and others
- Respond to inquiries from the community about grief support services
- Assist with the organizations public education program by conducting trainings at community partner organizations
- Attend community-based activities and events as needed (e.g., Open House, Community Resource Fairs, Back to School Night)

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Normal office conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
This position is eligible to work remotely up to one day per week at the manager’s discretion.

Judi’s House/JAG Institute (JH/JAG) is the only free-standing organization in Metro Denver devoted solely to supporting grieving youth and families through comprehensive care, research, education, and advocacy. Its mission is to help children and families grieving a death find connection and healing. Since 2002, JH/JAG has supported more than 12,000 individuals, and educated many thousands more, toward the vision that no child should be alone in grief. The integration of research and practice in a community-based center has uniquely positioned JH/JAG to create social change around the issue of childhood bereavement’elevating it as a public priority and serving as a national leader in the effort to increase access to effective grief care for bereaved children and families.

Salary Range: $34,000 – $44,500 (Paid over 24 pay periods)
