Brief description of the project:
TARGet Kids! 80% time ( www.targetkids.ca ) is developing a multi-disciplinary paediatric practice-based research network of community practitioners mainly from Toronto. Under the mandate of “Healthy children together”, our network is collecting longitudinal medical evidence on common health problems affecting urban Canadian children, including indices of nutritional exposures, pediatric obesity, environmental exposures, and social factors.
The successful candidate will also work closely with the Edwin S.H. Leong Centre for Healthy Children 20% time (Leong Centre) – a research centre affiliated with the Department of Pediatrics and the Temerty of Medicine at the University of Toronto, and has a vision of harnessing interdisciplinary research to promote the flourishing of every child and family.

We are seeking a Communications professional who has superior writing skills, can navigate the ever-changing world of social media, and wants to be part of a team that is helping to address inequities in child health and development.
The successful candidate will report to the Program Managers for TARGet Kids! and the Leong Centre to ensure all study processes are carried out and in accordance with our programs
Duties & Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:-
Event management
- Develop bi-monthly newsletter and strategies for community outreach
- Develop content such as brochures, pamphlets, videos in both print and digital as promotional assets
- Update web presence including website, and branding tools
- Summarize metrics through data analytics on various social media platforms
- Work to develop story boards and scripts for video content
- Support review and revision of communications strategy
- Support publication, abstract, and conference submissions and tracking
- Support other activities for stakeholder engagement including but not limited to application development, meeting coordination, event management, letter of support writing, fostering connections for potential collaborations
- Support meetings with stakeholders, parents and families, researchers and advisors.
- Draft reports, blog posts, and other strategic communications as needed.
This role is a 1.0 FTE that supports working hybrid remotely with travel to SickKids required at least once per month.
Qualifications and Skills:
- University degree in Communications, Public Affairs, Health Promotion or another related field of study
- 2+ years experience in a communications role
- Project Management Training is an asset
- Experience with Patient and Family Stakeholder Engagement is an asset
- Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills as a member of a high-functioning team
- Exceptional written English communication skills, with experience translating complex concepts into plain language.
- Strong knowledge of effective social media and digital content strategies. Knowledge and experience using social media platforms (Twitter, TikTok, Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram), email service providers (such as Mailchimp), and content management systems (such as WordPress).Detail-oriented with strong analytical, planning and project-management ability.
- Team player and self-starter with ability to prioritize and work efficiently under pressure.
- Exceptional attention to detail, a professional demeanor and strong interpersonal skills to engage diverse audiences and build partnerships/collaborations between diverse groups of stakeholders from a variety of sectors
- Demonstrated analytic and problem-solving skills with the ability to take initiative
- Must be computer literate (good typing skills and demonstrated proficiency of computer software programs such as MS Office)
- Proven ability to multi-task, prioritize work effectively and meet multiple deadlines
- Experience developing creative content for various platforms (web, announcements, letters, social media, print, etc)
- Previous experience in a healthcare, government or academic environment considered an asset
- A commitment to understanding and aiding in the pursuit of equity, diversity & inclusion
