POSITION SUMMARY:

The New York State Integrated Pest Management Program (NYSIPM) provides research-based educational outreach in the areas of agriculture and community IPM throughout the region. NYSIPM is closely linked with Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE) at Cornell University, the Land Grant University of New York State. NYSIPM, CCE, and Cornell are charged with advancing the lives and livelihoods of NYS residents through teaching, research, and public service.

NYSIPM is comprised of 16 faculty and staff, physically located in the campus of Cornell AgriTech, Geneva, NY and elsewhere in the state. Our current expertise spans fruit, vegetable, ornamental, field crop and livestock IPM; turfgrass and school IPM; and rodent, tick, and invasive species IPM. Presently, 2 staff members have communication and/or marketing responsibilities. Several NYS IPM faculty and staff utilize basic online analytic methods to measure program impact.

We are seeking a Strategic Marketing and Communication Specialist who will closely collaborate with the NYSIPM Director, Community IPM Coordinator, and other faculty and staff in the areas of community and agricultural IPM to develop targeted marketing and communication strategies to reach new or underserved audiences. This position has a dotted line reporting line to the college Associate Dean for CALS Com and Marketing and will be a part of the college communication team.  The successful candidate will manage and coordinate marketing and advertising efforts by writing and producing digital content, annual reports, briefs, press releases and more. Designing, executing and reporting of social media campaigns, and using innovative metrics and analytics will be critical skills for success when combined with use of broad digital assets management including, but not limited to Drupal and WordPress web content management, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and apps developed or managed by NYSIPM. Training in new platforms, systems, and certifications will be made available to candidates with a demonstrated ability to learn.

This is a full-time (39 hours/week) position and will be physically located in Geneva, New York with options for some remote work.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to engage in relationship-building and collaboration, and to support efforts that build diverse and equitable Integrated Pest Management programs statewide.

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing or communication with three years of relevant experience.

  • Marketing, communication, or advertising experience, especially promoting academic, biological, agricultural, or science subject matter.

  • Digital and social media campaign planning, development, implementation, tracking, and reporting.

  • Digital marketing experience that includes email, online advertisements, and social media posts.

  • Ability to run advertising campaigns in Google Adwords, Facebook, and other platforms.

  • Ability to use online metrics for tracking and reporting NYSIPM online outreach and impact.

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • B.S. or M.Sc. in science-based discipline

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.

  • Experience with web content management systems, especially Drupal and/or WordPress.

  • Understanding of search engine optimization strategies.

  • Graphic design experience for banner ads, social media, marketing, and advertisement campaigns.

  • Blog and technical writing experience.

  • Interest in learning to use Adobe Create Suite

  • Experience with search engine optimization.
