About Clean Energy for America
Clean Energy for America (CE4A), and our 501c(3) affiliate the Clean Energy for America Education Fund (CE4A EF) is the voice for the clean energy workforce, a new powerhouse of energy industry participants who overwhelmingly support ambitious action on climate to grow our economy and create jobs. CE4A is of, by, and for this rapidly growing sector of the labor market. Our mission is to build lasting power within the clean energy community by uplifting, engaging with, and advocating on behalf of the industry’s workforce.
CE4A mobilizes all levels of the clean energy workforce to advocate for good policies and be a strong organized grassroots voice for clean energy. Our goal is to become the largest advocacy force for the 3 million+ clean energy workers to push for ambitious clean energy policies in the country. We’re pursuing multiple programs which the Communications team will support, such as our Faces of Clean Energy program – identifying and uplifting the stories of Americans from all walks of life for whom clean energy has created career and economic opportunities.
About The Position
The Communications Specialist is a new role and will be a critical part of the communications efforts and overall CE4A program. They will work closely with colleagues and consultants to implement our strategy, focusing on key tactics like earned media messaging and materials, letters to the editors, and other creative projects. This is a great opportunity for an individual with a few years of experience in communications and/or media relations who wants to expand their skills and experience. Successful team members will have the opportunity to grow their project ownership and responsibility.
Day to day responsibilities include the following:
- Coordinate with team to write and edit quality communications materials and programs, like press releases, briefs, newsletters, and blogs
- Provide agile response to media opportunities (e.g. rapid response, interview prep, earned media response, etc)
- Produce media materials for events and programs for print, radio, and television outlets
- Suggest opportunities for grassroots media and execute for Op-Eds and Letters to the Editor; coordinate with CE4A leadership to develop compelling messages
- Monitor press coverage of CE4A and relevant partners; organize materials for internal use
- Support for creative projects such as events & video interviews if needed
- Coordinate with Digital Strategist for social media and other online messaging
- Work with the Story Bank Coordinator to identify and deploy amplification tactics for worker testimonials.
Job requirements
Experience and Qualifications
- Demonstrated alignment with CE4A’s mission and values and desire to support the clean energy workforce
- 2 – 5 years experience in a communications, PR or similar; We have a strong preference for individuals who have worked in a mission oriented environment such as politics, advocacy, or non-profits
- Ability to copy edit for diverse audiences while preserving the voice and story of original writers
- Support the composition of stories told by those for those who may not speak or otherwise be exceedingly comfortable with Standard or General American English
- Knowledge of and experience with grassroots communications methods, such as Letters to the Editor and Op-Eds, in addition to traditional methods like press releases
- Ability to navigate diversity of communication styles; Experience in grassroots communications is valuable
- Well developed communication skills, including writing, verbal, and visual storytelling; English will be a primary language, other languages may be helpful (e.g. Spanish) though not required
- Creative thinking and problem solving abilities
- Organized and able to work independently in a remote environment;
- Comfortable working with multiple stakeholders internally and externally, including advisors from across the country
- Commitment to help promote a healthy work environment
Additionally, experience managing or owning projects is helpful. We expect this individual to grow their ability to lead and manage a growing set of projects and responsibilities with time.
Salary & Benefits
Starting Salary range: $75,000-95,000
Direct Supervisor: Deputy Executive Director
