Job Description

Schedule: Full-time, flexible 

Location: Hybrid-remote. The preferred position location is Boulder, Colorado, or Newport Beach, California. Willing to consider Jackson, Wyoming, and Durango, Colorado.

Salary Range:  $70,000 – $90,000 dependent on experience (benefits listed below) 

Anticipated Start Date: November 2022

Walking Softer is a young climate and environmental foundation founded in September 2020, on a mission to inspire, connect, and support changemakers to take bold and immediate action in the conservation and regeneration of our planet. 

 

About the Position: 

The Communications Manager will help develop and maintain the voice and tone of the organization and drive the engagement and growth of our audience. A major goal of this position is to increase public awareness of the impact, topics, and partners Walking Softer is working on and with. This position will be responsible for managing content that spans over social media, website, newsletters, reports, and partner spotlights. This is a critical role that collaborates with all members of our team and is a unique opportunity that will provide exposure to a diverse set of responsibilities and skill-building at a fast-moving, innovative organization. This position reports directly to the Creative Director and works closely with the President. 

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Lead development of all written copy including website, social media, press releases, opinion articles, and more. Establish a consistent voice and tone for the organization; 
  • Develop and implement public relations, social media, and paid media strategies aligned with the organization’s mission, values, strategic priorities, program goals, and theory of change;
  • Collaborate with Creative Director on all campaigns and marketing initiatives;
    • Support Creative Director in managing relations with external stakeholders ranging from content creators, media partners, vendors, influencers, and celebrities;
  • Manage external email communications and lists including newsletters, updates, and invitations;
  • Manage day-to-day functions of the website and social media accounts. Develop and maintain a posting schedule, deploy content thoughtfully and monitor engagement, trends, and strategy. Manage community moderation on social media platforms and drive the conversation with a consistent brand tone and voice;
  • Complete monthly and annual reports and audits;
  • Other duties as assigned. 

 

Qualifications:

    • A minimum of 3-5 years of communications experience, or related experience in a professional environment with increasing responsibilities and independence; 
    • Exceptional written, verbal, and visual communication skills, able to create effective and compelling messaging and synthesize and communicate complex subject matter (prior journalism experience is a plus);
    • Skilled copywriter with an eye for editing and a high standard of excellence;
    • Have contributed to managing and growing a strong brand (personal or otherwise);
  • Demonstrates excellent judgment and executes tasks with a high degree of confidentiality and discretion;
  • Bonus – basic working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite; experience or knowledge of climate-related opportunities and fields.
