JOB ANNOUNCEMENT: COMMUNICATIONS DIRECTOR
The New York State Coalition Against Sexual Assault seeks a full-time Communications Director to join our team. The Communications Director is responsible for providing a variety of internal and external communications, including those with members and consultants/contractors, to ensure successful implementation of NYSCASA’s projects.

This is an exempt position that reports to the Senior Director of Collaboration and Training. The salary for this position is $51,480 annually. Because we know that the practice of salary negotiation can contribute to pay inequities, this starting salary is non-negotiable.
Preferred Qualifications:
Associates or higher degree and/or 3-5 years of relevant experience.
Strong communication, organizational, and writing skills, including effective use of social media and website development.
Commitment to and understanding of addressing sexual violence, anti-oppression work, racial justice, and other social justice issues.
Ability to be responsive and adapt to changing needs.
Effective time management skills.
Valid driver’s license.
Primary Duties:
Communications 90%
Create and maintain database of organizational contacts (i.e., members, donors, colleagues, etc.) to support effective agency communications.
Maintain correspondence with current members and invite new members.
Generate, send, and track (email or postal mail) donor thank-you letters and related communications.
Conduct general outreach activities such as distributing NYSCASA materials, handling or coordinating NYSCASA tabling opportunities, and participating in networking or other community events.
Field media requests and prepare press releases in coordination with the Executive Director.
Work with NYSCASA staff to develop content for social media posts and website updates, especially changes to rape crisis program contact information, in an ongoing and timely manner;
Coordinate services through website consultant(s) as necessary to update or improve the organization’s website
Prepare and distribute e-news updates on NYSCASA activities, resources, and successes on at least a monthly basis.
Handle all tasks associated with the lending resource library (i.e., purchasing, cataloging, lending, tracking, etc.)
Generate NYSCASA’s annual report.
Answer agency phones, providing assistance to callers as needed; work within a team approach to assist victims, survivors, and other members of the public via telephone and other forms of communication in regards to requests for information and referral.
Coordinate the development of public awareness campaigns to maximize statewide community engagement in addressing sexual violence.
Ensure NYSCASA events are visually documented to provide photos and videos for social media and publications.
Assist staff with development and distribution of publications.
Prepare marketing materials to support the organization’s activities.
Assist staff to develop and present trainings and education in person and via remote learning as requested.
Other Activities 10%
Develop and maintain a well-organized system of required project-related documentation, NYSCASA training attendance sheets, and program evaluations in collaboration with program team staff members.
Represent NYSCASA on committees, meetings, community events, conferences, and listservs.
Complete required reports.
Participate in professional development.
Attend NYSCASA meetings.
Assist with NYSCASA’s annual conference and any other events.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Director of Collaboration and Training.
Typical Physical Demands:
Requires prolonged sitting and repetitive tasks including use of a computer. Intermittent standing, walking, bending, repetitive motion of hands and wrists, reaching, pushing, and pulling. Visual acuity sufficient for work on a computer screen and review printed documents. May require walking up and down stairs. Requires the ability to hear and communicate orally with others. Frequent use of standard office equipment including computers, phones, printers/copiers, and filing systems.
Typical Working Conditions:
Work is typically performed in an indoor office environment with occasional driving and travel for business purposes. Requires a flexible schedule and ability to work up to 8 hours per day or 35 hours per week.
