About this role
The Communications and Digital Engagement Officer is a keystone member of Access Now’s global Advocacy Arm. The Officer is a focal point for Access Now’s digital engagement, particularly across social media, web, and email channels and platforms, and works to build up Access Now’s brand, influence, and work on regional and international levels. This kaleidoscopic role will help spark and nourish audience engagement, diversify global narratives, and drive long-lasting change by ensuring our outreach is bold, targeted, and accessible. Building off, and contributing to, our Strategic Vision for 2023-2027, the Officer will conceive, produce, and edit well-planned, exciting, and creative outputs across mediums, platforms, and regions.
The Communications and Digital Engagement Officer sits within the Communications and Engagement team, coordinating and collaborating with colleagues spanning Policy and International Programs, Campaigns and Rapid Response, and Legal Programmatic, as well as teams across the organisation, to ensure our human rights objectives are surpassed. The Officer reports through the Communications and Media Manager, and is likely based in Asia-Pacific or Latin America and the Caribbean.
What you will do
- Contribute to the Communications and Engagement team’s strategy development and implementation
- Work with team members from across Access Now to plan, prioritise, and streamline communications, digital engagement, and campaign strategies and efforts
- Lead Access Now’s digital engagement strategy, development, and implementation, including a social media plan
- Support regional teams, colleagues, and other Arms in writing, editing, and planning for social media and email, including running trainings and establishing guidelines
- Collaborate with internal editorial and production leads in developing and implementing a web optimization strategy, and advise on editorial SEO, framing, and structure to make web content more discoverable, accessible, and engaging to target audiences
- Report on analytics performance across digital engagement platforms and channels, and provide actionable insights for strategic decision-making
- Manage and help grow campaign, email, and newsletter platforms, channels, and databases, and increase audience reach
- Update and maintain Access Now’s website by uploading content and implementing SEO
- Write and edit diverse advocacy content for a range of mediums including social media, mass emails, media engagement, and the Access Now website
- Lead and support production, rollout, and translation of Access Now publications and outputs
- Undertake administrative responsibilities such as monitoring email folders, overseeing team project management tools, supporting event and meeting organisation, and other duties as assigned
- Contribute to internal documentation, communication, and training
- Explore and pitch new ideas, projects, and approaches in the fight for human rights in the digital era
- Assist in the global implementation of the annual RightsCon summit series
- Perform other duties as assigned
Skills, education, and mindset you will bring
- Five years professional-level work experience in English language communications, media engagement, or similar role, preferably reporting, editing, and publishing fact-based content as part of a newsroom or a communications role in civil society or other sectors
- Native level English, and preferably, fluency in a second language such as French, Arabic, or Spanish, also Hindi, Bahasa Indonesia, Cantonese, simplified Mandarin, or Portuguese (depending on location)
- Strong persuasive English writing and editing skills, with the ability to repackage complex ideas into clear, accessible messaging for a variety of audiences
- Ability to work remotely in a fast-paced environment, respond quickly to changing situations, and manage competing priorities
- A creative and open approach to working, and a curiosity and drive to continual learning
- Impeccable internal and external communication and project management skills, paired with cultural sensitivity and openness
- Familiarity with WordPress or other content management tools, social media platforms, and editing and design software, or desire to learn
- Appropriate education and work preparation for the role, with bachelor or master degree equivalent in communication, journalism, or media
The Details
Location
This is a full-time role. To help strengthen the Communication and Engagement Team’s global reach, there is high location preference for Asia-Pacific; India, Thailand, and other locations will be considered. High consideration will also be given to candidates in Latin America and the Caribbean – in particular: Argentina, Brazil, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Mexico, and Panama. The successful candidate must possess the right to work in the location in which they will be based. At this time most Access Now Team Members are working through hybrid office arrangements, combining remote at-home work with intermittent use of offices and/or co-working spaces.
Remuneration
Access Now offers competitive compensation and benefits packages that align competitively with locations and regions around the world. Location-specific examples of initial placement within the salary range for this role include:
- $2,500 USD gross monthly (Costa Rica)
- ฿54,000 TBT gross monthly (Thailand)
