On a mission to bring modern cloud best practices to the Air Force, we are looking for experienced Cloud Engineers to join Kessel Run’s Cloud Infrastructure team. You’ll join a group of diverse, passionate engineers from all manner of backgrounds, responsible for the development, security, and operations of Kessel Run’s global infrastructure. Together, we’ll revolutionize the way software is developed in the government sector, and tackle critical problems that impact everyone.

What You Will Do

  • Write robust automation for provisioning, configuration, deployment, and operation of highly scalable and cost-effective infrastructure.
  • Assist Platform Engineers and Developers in the design of cloud environments in AWS.
  • Work with team members on large-scale projects, often more than one project at a time.
  • Implement security controls to maintain compliance with strict conditions and industry best practice.
  • Provide recommendations and feedback to leadership on projects and develop optimal courses of action.
  • Detect, diagnose, fix, and prevent incidents; Finding solutions to achieve required service levels.
  • Troubleshoot localized or system-wide errors/problems in a precise and timely manner.
  • Manage continuous integration and deployment in cloud environments.

Who You Are

  • You are passionate about national defense and enabling the United States Air Force to maintain a competitive edge with war-winning software.
  • You possess a deep understanding of virtual machines and core cloud concepts including scalability, usage based billing, and the shared responsibility model.
  • You have experience administering and deploying on Amazon Web Services and familiarity with its basic services such as EC2, S3, RDS, VPC, & IAM.
  • You have experience using infrastructure as code (Terraform, Cloud Formation), configuration management (Ansible, Puppet), pipeline creation (Jenkins, Gitlab CI, Concourse), and scripting (Python, Shell).
  • You have a strong understanding of network structure and components.
  • You have a strong understanding of IT security principles such as RBAC, MFA, ACL, firewalls, and encryption standards.
  • You have familiarity with Linux, Kubernetes, Docker, and containers.
  • You have experience using agile development practices and familiarity with modern DevSecOps.
  • You have familiarity with zero trust architecture and Single Sign On (SSO).
  • You have an understanding of compliance standards such as NIST 800-53, FISMA, or HIPAA.
  • You avoid repeating manual processes and build automation wherever applicable.
  • You feel comfortable speaking up when the wrong technical direction is being taken.
  • You are a U.S. Citizen and have the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance and DoD8570 IAT Level II certification.

We hire at the GS-13/14 level equivalent. This means you can expect a salary of $102,601 to $137408 (depending on experience) for a Boston-based position (pay will be adjusted by location), as well as paid time off, health, and retirement benefits. There are advancement opportunities to promote to senior levels after hiring.
