Full-Time Policy Analyst II
Job Description
SUMMARY:
The Policy Analyst II works in close coordination with the Policy Director to forward Food & Water Watch and Food & Water Action policy goals at local, regional, national, and international levels. This includes engaging and coordinating external activities with policymakers, scientists, and fellow advocates, as well as internal collaboration with organizers, researchers, lawyers, and communication staff to develop and implement strategies that bolster and move legislative and administrative campaigns. Policy Analysts II will represent Food & Water Watch’s policy positions to lawmakers, administrative officials and advise the Policy Director on these strategies.
This position is a Union position covered under a contract between Food and Water Watch and the Nonprofit Professional Employees Union (NPEU).
Location: This position is approved for remote work in the Washington, D.C. area
Compensation: $67,000 – $80,000 / Annually
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Analyze legislation and regulations at local, state, regional, federal, and international levels and provide recommendations for FWW/FWA positions.
- Educate Members of Congress, executive branch officials and relevant staff through coordinating and attending meetings with these individuals, developing and implementing targeted email campaigns, developing and implementing Congressional briefings, and other activities in coordination with allies and internal staff to advance FWW/FWA issues.
- Maintain knowledge of a diverse set of issues, research products, and current events related to our climate and energy campaigns.
- Analyze and provide clear and concise written summaries of proposed legislation/regulation at the local, federal and international levels.
- Review and circulate recent updates on scientific and other information related to our climate and energy campaigns.
- Respond to information requests from field staff, activists, coalition members, media, and others.
- Assist in developing and presenting public testimony, professional presentations, and other materials.
- Support the development of thoroughly researched and persuasively written education materials such as reports, factsheets, web text, articles, and other materials on various climate and energy campaign issues.
- Provide quality written products, such as formal correspondence.
- Exercise independent judgment in executing assigned projects to achieve the organization’s goals.
- Support Our Culture of Philanthropy: Demonstrate an understanding of the essential role of our members and supporters, and consistently serve as an ambassador for FWW/FWA and our work. Participate in or attend events and other activities as appropriate that are organized for our supporters and donors. Be cognizant of fundraising opportunities and share contacts and information that will help build and sustain FWW/FWA.
- Carry out other projects, as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, the person in this position has a high degree of contact with allies, legislative staff; a moderate degree of contact with internal FWW/FWA staff; and a low degree of contact with media and members of the public.

Education/Experience: Bachelor’s Degree (BA, BS, etc.); up to 3 years of experience working on climate & energy issues or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Computer Skills: An individual should be able to work in a computerized environment and have adequate knowledge of word processing, email, internet, and spreadsheet software; in particular have coursework or certification in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and proficiency with all other Microsoft Office products.

The Policy Analyst II will work from home, but must be located in the Washington, DC metropolitan area, as they will need to make in person visits to the Hill and to agencies, as needed.
