Job Description
Provides commercial lines support in obtaining, maintaining, expanding and servicing the largest and most complex commercial lines client accounts. Maintains and enhances the firm’s relationships with existing clients by executing proactive, creative, and ongoing contact initiatives.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- Incumbents in this role will provide commercial lines support in obtaining, maintaining, expanding and servicing typically mid-sized and/or moderate to higher complexity client accounts.
- Handle all customer relations and support services for assigned accounts.
- Work with producers/marketing in order to enhance client development, service, quality and sales of these clients. Independently identify and analyze client exposures to recommend and/or design risk transfer/appropriate insurance coverage and carrier.
- Develop a competitive insurance program that provides various alternatives for client consideration.
- Compile, organize, review and maintain all client information necessary to process new, renewal, cancellation and endorsements.
- Negotiate favorable quotes with appropriate insurance carriers for client recommendations. Bind commercial lines coverage for clients within authority granted by the specific insurance company.
- Work policy expiration lists prior to renewal for customer contact and improved retention. Prepare policy renewal inquiries and recommend coverage enhancements as appropriate.
- Process client requests and solicit improved or additional coverage on behalf of the agency or individual producer. Use personal sales techniques to promote and close policy transactions.
- Assist with agency collection activity as requested and process cancellation requests. Takes payments and applies them to appropriate accounts.
- Assist manager or higher level staff with special projects or research.
- May also participate in the development of department policies and procedures. Maintain a current level of knowledge on rates, forms, and coverage changes through bulletins and circulars, and maintains required commercial lines manuals and rating systems.
- Perform database management and input to department standards. Provide status report to manager on issues related to carrier, producer and sales center performance.
- May also report on customers, internal functions and individual productivity (backlog) issues. Perform other related duties as requested.
Qualifications: Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university; or equivalent combination of education and experience More than 5 years experience in an agency or insurance company environment.
Skills/Knowledge:
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as financial reports, legal document and procedure manuals Ability to respond to common inquires or complaints from customers
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
- Ability to solve moderately difficult problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables where only limited standardization exists
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form Personal computer knowledge and experience such as MS Word, Excel, Outlook, etc. is required.
- Prior experience with AMS is preferred. Knowledge of insurance applications and Registry of Motor Vehicles procedures is preferred Proven ability to cultivate relationships with clients.
- Demonstrates effective negotiation and closing techniques Excellent written and verbal communication skills Strong analysis and judgment skills
- Works well in a team environment
- Licensed agent status for the State of Massachusetts and all other states where Eastern Insurance conducts business as required.
- Maintains current Property and Casualty License, including, but not limited to, CEU’s.
- Professional designations, including CPCU, CIC, or ARM are preferred.
