WHAT YOU”LL BE DOING:
MCDOT Division of Transportation Engineering, Design Section, seeks a Survey CADD Technician (Civil Works Designer). The employee will be responsible for creating, developing, analyzing, preparing and presenting recommendations concerning design options, and for preparing design drawings for the maintenance, alteration, or construction of all aspects of selected projects (or portions of same), of the Montgomery County Transportation System (i.e., roads, bridges, storm drainage systems, park and ride lots, sidewalks, and bikeways).
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Researching for available survey control, conducting deed searches, performing boundary research, obtaining utility plans, processing field survey notes, processing raw data files to prepare topographic surveys and digital terrain models, guiding field survey crews on the scope of survey work, entering data from plats and deeds into coordinate geometry software, and performing traverse computations;
- Using traverse and field survey data to prepare deed mosaics;
- Computing search ties;
- Downloading data from field surveys and makes corrections as necessary;
- Processing data to prepare topographic maps using AUTOCADD files;
- Creating and editing Digital Terrain Models;
- Performing computations for the baseline of construction stakeout survey;
- Preparing right-of-way plats and easement plats, all under the guidance of a licensed surveyor;
- Reviewing plats for compliance with County standards.
- Reading, interpreting, and utilizing different types of engineering plans and specifications to convey their meaning to others and/or to assist in preparation of preliminary and final design plans for transportation projects, such as roadway, sidewalk, or drainage improvement projects;
- Developing sections and details for construction plans;
- Compiling, sorting, processing, and/or querying data for use in GIS databases and maps;
- Preparing displays for public meetings or presentations;
- The incumbent may need to contact other agencies for information, such as horizontal and vertical control or utility information.
- Performing other duties as required
Who we are seeking:
- You have excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- You have excellent CADD skills. You can easily import field survey data to appropriate CADD graphic layers and apply labeling and file association
- You have excellent skills in compiling, sorting, querying data and creating GIS layers, maps, and other graphics and/or tables.
- You work well with others, yet you enjoy working autonomously to complete tasks and projects on time.
- You are organized and detail oriented.
- You are a problem-solver who can develop creative solutions.
Additional Information:
This position requires the ability to attend meetings or perform work at locations outside the office.
The work is primarily sedentary and, in an office, setting but does require occasional field visits which requires the use of safety equipment such as safety shoes and reflective vests; occasional periods of standing, walking over rough terrain, bending, stooping and occasional lifting of objects up to 50 pounds.
To ensure a positive workplace and to comply with federal, state and County laws, the incumbent is responsible for completing mandatory trainings within the first three to six months or within the specified timeframe.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience: Extensive (seven (7) years) experience in an applicable technical engineering field that has required the application of principles of complex mathematics (e.g., advanced algebra, geometry, and trigonometry) and basic civil engineering practices and techniques.
Education: Completion of high school or High School Certificate of completion recognized in the State of Maryland.
Equivalency: An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
License: None.
