Full-Time City Assessor
Job Description
Join the City of Oshkosh as our City Assessor and play a pivotal role in leading our Assessment Services Division. We seek someone committed to delivering fair and equitable property valuations according to state statutes, helping to maintain the integrity and accuracy of our city’s property assessments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise and Coordinate Division Functions: Plans, supervises and coordinates the functions of the Assessment Services Division. Supervises the maintenance of assessed values annually, including valuing building permit work and annexed properties and, reviewing sales.
- Property Valuation Management: On an annual basis, establishes assessed values on all real property in the city according to Wisconsin Statutes Chapter 70 and the Wisconsin Property Assessment Manual.
- Data Collection and Maintenance: Conducts city-wide revaluations utilizing a Computer Assisted Mass Appraisal (CAMA) system and maintains a database of current and accurate property information which is provided to city and county departments and to the public.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Real Estate or a related field.
- Minimum of six (6) years of experience in an assessment, appraisal and real estate capacity, including supervisory experience.
- Possess and maintain certification by the State of Wisconsin at the Assessor 3 and Assessor 2 levels under the State Assessor’s Certification Program, or ability to obtain.
- Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
The ideal candidate will also be able to effectively interact and communicate with diverse audiences, to act in a professional manner with tact and good judgement, and possess the ability to communicate effectively with individuals or groups who may be skeptical, argumentative or disagreeable.
