Full-Time Chief Medical Officer
Job Description
British Swimming is seeking a Chief Medical Officer (CMO) with overall responsibility for Olympic Swimming, Paralympic Swimming and Olympic Diving to drive the direction of performance medicine through to Paris 2024 and beyond.
The role will form part of a highly experienced Sports Science and Sports Medicine leadership team, and reports directly to the Associate Director of Sports Science and Sports Medicine.
The purpose of the role is to strategically drive a performance focussed sports medicine service for the aquatic disciplines, while ensuring the highest standards of clinical governance. With a semi-centralised system, it is expected that the CMO will provide direct clinical support at identified British Swimming performance centres. The role will also have a significant advisory component requiring the ability to influence athletes and coaches remotely, as well as coordinating medical support through the UK institute network.
There will be a requirement for some domestic travel between centres where a need exists, as well as international travel to support the programmes at key events on the world stage. British Swimming will consider a flexible approach to delivery to ensure the most impactful service.
The successful individual will be an excellent clinician, and display outstanding organisational and leadership skills, but most importantly, they will be passionate about supporting athletes to achieve their potential, and will work seamlessly as a key member of an integrated interdisciplinary team. The successful candidate will also demonstrate a proven track record as a CMO, or as an established Sports Physician within the elite sport environment.
