Full-Time Chief Building Official
Job Description
The Chief Building Official is a full-time, exempt position with a full benefits package. Annual salary ranges from $74,080 – $84,669, depending on qualifications.
As head of the Inspections Services Division, the Chief Building Official manages all building inspection functions and secures compliance with City and State codes, regulations and policies governing building construction and code enforcement. The work of this position involves exercise of technical knowledge, considerable judgement and interpretation, professional oversight for decisions on code compliance, and best management practices for design and construction. Supervisory skills and the ability to work with other divisions in Community Development, as well as other departments, is required.
The position also oversees the administration of the Inspections Services Division including the annual budget, employee evaluations, internal office communication, employee time maintenance and follow-up on concerns from the general public. Specific duties include:
- Supervision of Inspection Services Division staff
- Project consultation
- State and local code enforcement
- Oversight of Inspection Division office functions
Required minimum qualifications:
- Associate’s Degree in Building Design, Civil or Structural Engineering, Construction Management, Construction Trades, or a related field.
- Five or more years of experience in building construction, code enforcement and inspection; prior supervisory experience is desired.
- UDC Building, HVAC, Electrical and Plumbing Certifications and Commercial Building Inspection Certification, or have the ability to obtain.
The ideal candidate will also be able to effectively interact and communicate with diverse audiences, to act in a professional manner with tact and good judgement, and possess the ability to communicate effectively with individuals or groups who may be skeptical, argumentative or disagreeable.
