Full-Time Chair – Swimming Officials Group
Job Description
Purpose of Role
To act as an independent Chair of the Swimming Officials’ Group and to provide direction and leadership to fulfil the following:
Specific Responsibilities
- To set, maintain and monitor standards for the training of all levels of Technical Officials in the disciplines of pool, open water and para swimming
- To oversee the setting and marking of the Referee examination papers and maintain standards for the practical assessment
- To promote the development of British Swimming Officials at all levels
- To oversee the appointment of British Swimming Officials to the FINA and World Para Swimming lists
- To oversee the appointment of FINA and World Para Swimming officials to International events
- To develop and maintain CPD for all British Swimming Officials
- To develop and maintain licensing standards
- To train Referee Course Leaders
- To oversee the appointment of Technical Directors to British Swimming and Technical Delegates to British Para-Swimming events.
- To oversee the appointment of Referees and Starters to British Swimming and British Para-Swimming promoted meets and other invited meets, from the list of Development, FINA and Para Swimming officials.
- To develop swimming officials to meet the needs of the sport
- To work with all Home Country Associations to maintain common standards across all swimming disciplines
Person Specification – Skills, Knowledge & Experience
- Should be an experienced qualified Referee and current with the laws and processes of swimming.
- Evidence of successful team leadership.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Strong sport knowledge including a knowledge of the infrastructure of swimming at National and International levels.
- Evidence of management and leadership in a variety of conditions/situations.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present views in a clear, concise manner.
- Ability to develop and sustain effective working relationships.
- Ability to give and receive constructive feedback.
Terms of appointment
During the period of office the appointed individual should not to seek or accept any position within swimming or swimming competitions that conflicts with the training, development and appointment of the above
The appointment will be for a term of four years, with a possible further term of four years. The position is a voluntary role with expenses in line with BS policy.
The role is expected to require a commitment equivalent to between 10 and 20 days per annum.
