Job Description
SUMMARY
The CNA/MA assists the professional staff by performing various resident care activities and related nonprofessional services necessary in caring for the personal needs and comfort of the residents. Responsible for the delivery of resident care (baths, personal grooming, feeding) as directed by the Lead LVN or NP.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide personal care assistance to residents as directed (bathing, grooming, feeding, and toileting)
- Administer complete and partial resident baths, including bath, oral care, dentures, Foley care, hair/nail care, shaving, bed making
- Assist in toileting needs of residents and empty drainage collection devices,
- Follow facility protocol for admission documentation
- HIPAA Competency – Protect residents’ privacy by ensuring resident protected health information (PHI) is not left unattended or open
- Help transfer, lift, raise, and turn residents, utilize proper lifting and body mechanics and appropriate transfer devise to prevent personal injury
- Recognize and identify limitation in providing care and seeks help from appropriate staff
- Obtain temperature on residents during vitals check; once a month take weights and measurements, upon intake
- Regularly check on residents to ensure comfort, dignity, and privacy; report accurate results to achieve the best possible resident care
- Learn and implement infection control policies
- Prepare the resident room for admission; provide resident orientation to room and admission pack supplies; assist a resident with dressing as indicated
- Assist LVN/NP with various duties as directed, e.g., turning and positioning immobile residents every two hours, etc.
- Assist discharged resident with dressing and packing-if/as needed; clean room of supplies/linen
- Maintain and improve the resident optimal level of functioning and nursing rehabilitation
- Recognize changes in resident’s condition and ask appropriate questions to clarify the situation; report changes to superiors
- Deliver supplies to resident rooms; maintain resident rooms in a neat, orderly, and clutter-free environment
- Current, unrestricted CNA/MA license/registration
- CNA/MA licensure/registration in California
- Minimum one-year experience as CNA/MA
- Able to read, understand, and follow individual resident care plans
- Able to lift and transfer residents into wheelchair, bed or care, etc.
- Assist members to maintain their bedroom areas clean, report to member’s advocate any issues
- Able to obtain and record the resident’s temperature, pulse, respiration, weight
- Able to assist with post mortem care
- Able to meet all health, compliance and competency requirements
- Detail-oriented with effective time management, organizational, written, verbal, and computer skills
- Knowledge of infection control procedures, including proper handwashing techniques, contact with blood spills, and standard precautions
- Able to obtain and maintain CPR/1st Aid Certification
- Minimum 30 WPM typing speed preferred
- Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Combination of either field and/or office environment depending on position
- On occasion walk or drive to different agency sites
- May/Will necessitate working in busy and loud environments depending on position
- May/Will be exposed to elements like cold, heat, dust, noise and odor depending on position
- May need to bend, stoop, twist and sit throughout the day
- Regularly required to sit, stand, bend; occasionally lift or carry up to 35 lbs.
