Location

 

In this position you can expect to work Monday through Friday from 8am to 5pm. This role is all on site at Denver International Airport, 8500 Pena Blvd. Denver, CO 80249.

 

This position responds to afterhours calls or emergency calls outside of normal scheduled or business hours and may be required to be on-call to address emergent needs.

 

What You’ll Do

As a Facilities Maintenance CUP Superintendent you can expect to manage the day-to-day operations of the central utility plant to ensure efficient and reliable functioning of critical systems to include:

  • Managing Central Utility Plant Supervisors and Building Engineers, performing skilled, high-level Central Utility Plants, Pre-conditioned Air Plants, Primary Pump Rooms and Heating, Chill and Condenser systems maintenance responsibilities
  • Developing, mentoring, coaching, and monitoring work teams or units determining priorities, goals, and objectives of the work functions, and assigns staff to accomplish the division’s goals and objectives efficiently and effectively
  • Ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and environmental regulations governing CUP utility operations; Implement safety protocols and procedures to minimize risks to personnel and equipment, to include conducting drills and training exercises to prepare staff for emergency situations, such as power outages, equipment failures, or other critical incidents
  • Forecasting expenses related to construction, preventive maintenance, and repair initiatives
  • Assists in the developing and managing budgets for operational expenses, maintenance activities, and capital projects related to plant infrastructure upgrades and improvements
  • Disseminates information to supervisors and building engineer staff regarding planned shutdowns or maintenance activities that may impact operations, work schedules to include required personnel for shift coverage, reinforcement of safety protocols and procedures and the feasibility of construction, preventive maintenance, and repair projects
  • Directs the development of performance evaluation standards for functions managed within the guidelines set by leadership
  • Provide training opportunities and resources to enhance the skills and knowledge of staff, including training on equipment operation, safety procedures, and new technologies
  • Establishing and maintaining preventive maintenance and repair programs for City-owned facilities and equipment at the airport; Performs other related duties as assigned or requested

 

About You

 

Our ideal candidate has some or all the following experience, skills, and characteristics:​

  • Five [5] or more years of leadership experience supervising skilled trades work in the maintenance, repair, and construction of buildings and facilities within a Central Utility Plant Environment
  • Five [5] or more years of hands-on experience in operations and maintenance within a Central Utility Plant (CUP) setting, encompassing chiller plants, boiler plants, primary pump rooms, and hydronic systems
  • Proficient in supervising skilled trades personnel engaged in construction, preventive maintenance, and repair tasks related to Central Utility Plant facilities
  • Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in utility plant operations and management, supported by extensive experience and proficiency in various facets, including comprehensive understanding of:
    • Central utility plant operations and management, encompassing steam/hot water and chilled water systems
    • Principles and operation of gas/oil boilers and chiller plants
    • Familiarity with engineering, design and principles in the operation of mechanical and electrical practices of power plant and utility distribution systems related to high-temperature hot water boilers, large tonnage centrifugal chillers, closed/open water systems, large water-cooling towers, gas turbines, pumps, fans, valves, and piping systems
  • Previous experience working in an Aviation environment and or working knowledge of FAA regulations
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Preferred Licensures/Certifications at time of application OR within 6 months of hire: City and County of Denver Refrigeration Supervisor A, Stationary Engineer certificate, and CFC (Universal EPA License)

 

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Education requirement: Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate
    Experience Requirement: Four (4) years of experience supervising skilled trades work in the maintenance, repair and construction of buildings and facilities
    Education/Experience Equivalency: A combination of appropriate education and experience may be substituted for the minimum education and experience requirements
  • Requires a valid Driver’s License at the time of application
  • Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment
