Position: C4 Organizer

Supervisor: Chair, OutFront Minnesota Board of Directors  

Location: Minneapolis, but frequent travel throughout Minnesota

Salary: $50,000

 

Work Hours | Full-Time, Exempt; the occasional evening and weekend for events | with healthcare, dental, & vision options, vacation, and other benefits

Reports to: Director of Policy & Organizing  

Organization Background

OutFront Minnesota is the state’s largest organization advocating for and serving lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ+) Minnesotans. Founded in 1987, OutFront Minnesota’s mission is to create a state where LGBTQ+ people are free to be who they are, love who they love, and live without fear of violence, harassment, or discrimination. OutFront is leading Minnesota toward LGBTQ+ equity through a combination of public policy, community education, direct service, organizing, and policy advocacy. The overall goals of our work are to: (1) strengthen the movement for LGBTQ+ equity; (2) develop leaders who can organize others to work toward LGBTQ+ liberation; (3) win over the hearts and minds of Minnesotans.

 

Job Summary

The Organizing Team of OutFront Minnesota works to build grassroots power for local and statewide campaign wins that benefit LGBTQ Minnesotans. As part of this team, the C4 Organizer will build relationships with and mobilize activists to move the hearts and minds of their friends and neighbors to build the political climate needed for future pro-equality victories. This will include working with local activists to reach out to targeted voters in their area to learn about them and move them to support LGBTQ equity. The C4 Organizer will be a member of a cohort including organizers from other progressive organizations.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Develop regionally-based leadership teams that will together educate, engage, and mobilize new activists and voters across the political spectrum. Activities of these teams will include, but are not limited to:
    • Recruitment phone calls
    • One to One visits
    • Lobby Day
    • Door Knocking
    • Canvasses and In-Person Volunteer Recruitment
    • Online advocacy
    • House parties
    • Community Gatherings
  • Move local activists in work for LGBTQ equity in their communities, schools, congregations, and statewide.
  • With support, develop and meet benchmark goals for building relationships with and mobilizing activists.
  • Collaboratively create messages around justice for transgender people and LGBTQ equality to use in community outreach and education.
  • Complete timely reports of all pertinent activities.
  • Participate in trainings related to job duties and work towards professional development goals.
  • Track all data in appropriate databases and reporting forms including the VAN.
  • Participate in grassroots fundraising.
  • Lobby at the capitol for bills us and our partners endorse, working closely with Legistors  

 

Requirements:

  • One to three years experience in grassroots community organizing, electoral organizing, and/or volunteer management.
  • Proven ability to develop volunteer leadership, delegate tasks, and lead a group of volunteers.
  • Willingness and means to travel throughout the Twin Cities Metro area and to St. Cloud on a regular basis. 
  • Proven competence as a database user; preferably with VAN and MyCampaign.
  • Strong commitment to equity for LGBTQ people including disabled people, people of color, transgender people, youth, elders, and women.
  • Desire for coaching and learning new things. 
  • Sense of humor and a desire to make the work of LGBTQ liberation fun and emotionally meaningful.
  • Proven ability and desire to work across differences such as race, gender, ethnicity, age and other aspects of identity.
