About this role
The Business and Human Rights (BHR) Campaigner plays a key role in carrying out the work of the BHR team, along with the BHR Manager, in pushing for corporate accountability in the tech sector. Core functions of the team include responding in real-time to corporate-linked human rights abuses, promoting rights-respecting standards and principles across the sector, leveraging partnerships with the investor community to advance Access Now’s priorities, and collaborating with team members across the Advocacy Arm and Helpline to support regional and thematic work and to facilitate corporate outreach. You will cover a range of issues and thematic areas that are priorities for the BHR team including business and human rights in conflict / crisis, surveillance, and cloud center expansion, among others.
This position will be housed within the Campaigns and Rapid Response Team and will report to the Business and Human Rights Manager. You will play an important role as a liaison with colleagues within the Campaigns team to identify opportunities for private sector impact and support team members in company outreach and campaigning.
What you will do
- Working with the BHR Manager to develop and implement Access Now’s global strategy on BHR, in consultation with regional teams and thematic working groups
- Identifying opportunities for impact and designing campaigns to hold corporate actors accountable for their policies and practices
- Producing engaging and dynamic content for both private sector and public audiences through press releases, campaign assets, social media, etc.
- Collaborating with team members on rapid response to immediate corporate-linked threats and lead company outreach as needed
- Supporting investor engagement including outreach to responsible investors and investor advocates on Access Now priorities and amplifying shareholder resolutions
- Building and maintaining relationships with external partners including other human rights organizations and investor advocates
- Assists in global implementation of the annual RightsCon summit series
- Performs other duties as assigned
Skills, education, and mindset you will bring
- 3-5 years professional-level experience building and managing global campaigns and coalitions, particularly campaigns aimed at the private sector
- Understanding of how to do outreach to the key players in the private sector stakeholder landscape including companies and investors
- Knowledge of international human rights and tech policy issues and experience in advocacy, campaigning, or organizing
- Strong understanding of corporate accountability frameworks and standards, particularly the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights
- Resourcefulness and ability to work proactively in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to effectively communicate with individuals from a variety of disciplines, cultures, and backgrounds
- Fluency in English required; Fluency in a second language, especially French, Arabic, or Spanish a plus!
The Details
Location
This is a full-time position, with preference for Africa, Asia-Pacific/Southeast Asia, Costa Rica and Europe (Belgium, Germany). The successful candidate must possess the right to work in the location in which they will be based. At this time most Access Now Team Members are working through hybrid office arrangements, combining remote at-home work with intermittent use of offices and/or co-working spaces.

- €5,356.00 EUR gross monthly (Belgium)
- $3,987.75 USD gross monthly (Costa Rica)
- €6,075.00 EUR gross monthly (Germany)
- $3,800.00 USD gross monthly (Kenya)
- $6,027.00 USD gross monthly (United States)
