Job Description
- Maintain, repair, and construct bridges, pipes, and reinforced concrete box culverts.
- Use hand tools to maintain and repair bridges, pipes, and culverts.
- Perform carpentry using tools to perform forming, layouts, cuts, and fitting structural steel to close tolerances.
- Place & finish concrete.
- Operate 2-way radios.
- Safely operate a chainsaw.
- Perform erosion control.
- Operate a dump truck (secure and haul loads).
- Operate an air compressor, forklift, vibratory roller, front end loader, backhoe, lowboy, and truck mounted crane.
- Rig loads for lifting.
- Tie reinforcing steel.
- Conduct flagging operations.
- Perform pipe installation & drainage maintenance.
- Plan development and layout of traffic control in a work zone for 2- lane roads.
- Install & maintain erosion control devices.
- Transport materials/equipment using a truck & trailer.
- Experience performing drainage maintenance, such as shoulder and ditch maintenance, pipe installation, or drainage structures.
- Working knowledge of standard Work Zone Safety and Workplace safety policies.
- Experience in 1+ of the following: shoulder and ditch maintenance, pipe installation, asphalt patching, or snow/ice removal.
- Experience operating 2+ pieces of the following equipment: backhoe, tandem dump truck, motor grader, front end loader, forklift, force feed loader, asphalt distributor, asphalt patcher crack sealing machine, track excavators, skid steer, or sweeper.
- Experience constructing formwork using skilled carpentry techniques, such as concrete forms for curbs, sidewalks, landscaping, or other construction-related formwork.
- General skills in areas such as pile driving, carpentry, concrete work, machine operation, contract inspection. repair and replacement of culverts, bridges, large diameter pipe, bulkheads and pile clusters. Sandblasting, lead paint removal, painting, steel fabrication and straightening of steel beams. Trenching & shoring and bushing & shrubbing.
- Fitness and agility to stand, climb, and walk on uneven terrain.
- Strength to lift 50 pounds.
- Good communications skills.
- Fearless of heights.
- A Class A Commercial Driver’s License (Don’t Have One? STILL APPLY! You can earn it through our on-the-job training program within 360 days of hire).
- Safety toe shoes.
- Ability to obtain/maintain a valid inmate card.
- You will be exposed to extreme conditions, such as ice, snow, dust, extreme heat/cold, high volumes of traffic, and heavy construction equipment.
- You will be subject to emergency callbacks after normal working hours.
- A pre-employment drug test is required, and we will conduct a background investigation over the past 2 years with your previous employers for controlled substance and alcohol testing.
- High school/GED diploma, and
- 3+ years of relevant experience; or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
