Full-Time Brewer/Cellarman/Forklift Operator
Job Description
POSITION OVERVIEW
Mass. Bay Brewing Company (MBBC), parent company of Harpoon, UFO, Clown Shoes, Arctic Chill, Catamount and City Roots, is seeking a highly motivated professional to join our Vermont Production team. The Brewer/Cellar/Forklift Operator will be responsible for many of the day-to-day activities necessary to make high-quality beer.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Cellar Operations
- Start-up and shut-down of facility processes
- CIP, CUP and sanitizing of fermenters and BB tanks, lines and yeast brinks
- Performing gravity reads and dry hopping of fermenters; accurate documentation
- Yeast cell counts and pitching
- Racking kegs
- Daily operation of filtration equipment and procedures
- Cleaning and sanitizing filtration equipment and lines
- Preparing cellar systems for daily start-up
Brewhouse Operations
- Responsible for all aspects of wort production and related processes
- Start-up and shut-down of facility processes
- Milling and hop/antifoam/spice additions
- Obtaining samples needed for the lab
- Maintaining turbidity, CO2 and O2 levels within product specifications
- Performing dilution and flavor checks
- Maintaining brewhouse vessels in tour-worthy condition
Forklift Duties
- Handling and disposition of materials and tracking warehouse inventory
- Loading and unloading materials from trailers
- Moving pallets or materials on pallets/crates around the facility
- Stacking pallets or materials in the correct manner and following inventory control instructions
- Checking to ensure loads are secure
- Building pallets when necessary
- Basic understanding of forklift functionality
- Ability to load bay and maneuver in/out of cooler/warehouse
- Ability to load can line with raw material and unload full goods from line
REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum of 2 years experience in brewing/manufacturing
- Ability to multitask and adjust to changing priorities
- Flexibility to work varied shifts is key – shifts vary
- Proper use of PPE
- Mechanical aptitude
- Attention to detail is required for this role
- Forklift certification a plus
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. at shoulder height
- Prolonged standing
- Ability to work over, under and around potentially dangerous/moving machinery in small spaces
- Ability to withstand various temperatures and weather conditions
- Comfortability working at heights and using stairs repeatedly
