Full-Time Bilingual Grief Counselor

Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Bilingual Grief Counselor will operate as primary support for Spanish-language clinical services at Judi’s House. They participate in the development of the clinical milieu, lead and offer guidance to the support group process, conduct psychosocial assessments, provide individual and family counseling, share therapeutic expertise in order to provide best practices in grief support for children and their families, aid in the professional development of interns, offer support and guidance to the research initiative, assist in the recruitment of volunteers, and conduct community outreach opportunities.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES SOUGHT:

  • Two years post-master’s experience in grief counseling/support AND/OR child and adolescent counseling/therapy in Spanish and English
  • Experience conducting assessments and providing therapeutic services to children and their families
  • Effective communication and public speaking skills in Spanish and English
  • Experience with grief, loss, and trauma as they relate to providing therapy to bereaved children and families
  • Familiarity with diverse populations and local community resources
  • Written and oral Spanish fluency

EDUCATION OR FORMAL TRAINING:

The Bilingual Grief Counselor position requires license or license-eligible registration with the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies as an LCSW, LMFT or LPC or psychologist

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Clinical

  • Meet regularly with program leadership for clinical and organizational consultation
  • Facilitate grief-therapy groups as assigned (evenings)
  • Ensure model fidelity by adhering to established curricula
  • Conduct non-group therapy grief counseling sessions as assigned
  • Assess individuals and families and recommend clinically appropriate therapeutic services
  • Support trainee and volunteer orientations
  • Participate in additional program events and client activities (e.g., Memorial Event, Hope for the Holidays, etc.)
  • Provide a minimum of one clinical in-service training per training cohort
  • Maintain clinically accurate and timely clinical documentation
  • Provide consultation and clinical support for crisis assessment and intervention
  • Licensed staff provide one hour of clinical supervision per week, per assigned trainee
  • Oversee the clinical and professional development of trainees based on collaborative roles (e.g., co-facilitating groups, interview presentation, client consultation)
  • Responsible for participating in Continuing Education (CE) in accordance with DORA and licensing requirements for current biennium

Research and Evaluation

  • Evaluate program effectiveness through observation, experience, and gathering feedback
  • Participate in standard data collection processes
  • Assist in development and oversight of the program curricula, activities, and materials

Community

  • Respond to community inquiries about grief support services and trainings
  • Assist with the organization’s public education efforts by providing training and outreach in the  community

SUPERVISORY DUTIES:

Works with Clinical Training Manager to supervise trainees.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, and walk as well as bend, squat, and climb stairs. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: 

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Normal office conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.

This position primarily works 4×10 Monday-Thursday and adjusts schedule to work eight assigned Fridays each year. The Bilingual Grief Counselor must be available to work up to three evenings per week. This position is not eligible to work remotely.

Its mission is to help children and families grieving a death find connection and healing. Since 2002, JH/JAG has supported nearly 10,000 individuals, and educated many thousands more, toward the vision that no child should be alone in grief. The integration of research and practice in a community-based center has uniquely positioned JH/JAG to create social change around the issue of childhood bereavement elevating it as a public priority and serving as a national leader in the effort to increase access to effective grief care for bereaved children and families.
