All About the Role
Last year… Last year…over 1500 people were helped by our Benefits Advice Service securing over £4,000,000 worth of payments for people affected by cancer.
But, with 20,000 people in Wales diagnosed annually with cancer we’ve so many more people that need ‘US’. So, if making a difference when it comes to money matters and cancer is important to you we’d love you to bring your Welfare & Benefits Advice experience to US.
You’ll need to already have great Welfare Benefits knowledge that’s up-to-date where you give spot-on practical advice direct to a managed client caseload. And, you offer practical solutions with your client at the heart of your service and speak up for them as a Benefits Advice professional.
This role has real impact dealing with those who need our urgent attention. It concentrates on ‘US’ being there in the here and now to effectively support our clients with a ‘Special Rules’ status. It means you’ll be part of people’s end of life journey with the opportunity to really make the difference when people have their financial concerns lifted with your specialist advisory expertise.
We know dealing with a terminal illness is a tough subject and so you’ll regularly work with our partners across Welsh Health Boards, specialist groups and our in-house colleagues ensuring this client group is supported in the most effective way. We’re a close-knit group with in-roads to make. And, by the right people working together it’ll mean WE can be there in the right moment to help those with a life-limiting prognosis.
So, this job is for you if you’re a Welfare Benefits Advisor who likes the work we do across Wales, you successfully manage a client caseload and have relevant experience to support our partnership building work. If you’ve experience of working within a health-related Benefits Advisor role especially with cancer groups this would support your application although it’s not essential for US to consider your application without it.
You’ll do the job well if your communication skills are exceptionally strong; you’re a listener, empathetic and someone who understands and explains things easily. You’ll do well in a small team and have an attitude that’s supportive and of course take pride in delivering excellent and well-managed work. You thrive working with a range of people and have a respectful way of going about things.
This role is mainly working remotely so you’ll need to be resilient, self-motivated and have the appropriate confidential space to do this job from home. Supported by an admin team to help keep things going smoothly you’ll need excellent IT skills and the experience of using databases and the ability to create easy to use resources for clients, to breakdown essential information to help people plan and take control in the later stages of their illness.
Tell us more about you
We really want the best in terms of skills, attitude and people who share our values.
So, we could be a good match if you can demonstrate:
- You match our values and are committed to doing good work with others
- You’ve got a good amount of experience as a welfare benefits rights adviser (or something really similar to transfer to this specialism)
- You’ve got practical experience of liaising and negotiating with the DWP/HRMC/Local Authorities when it comes to matters like this
- You’re good at building relationships and developing partnership working and work well with groups or individuals to deliver information in a variety of ways
- You’re good with using IT and databases in your role
