Job Description
The City of Tacoma Fire Department has an exciting opportunity for a Behavioral Health Crisis Responder to join their team.
The Behavioral Health Crisis Responder is part of a non-emergency operation team that aims to reduce the frequency of behavioral health crises routed through the 911 Emergency Medical Service (EMS) system. This position will be part of the TFD CARES team within the Tacoma Fire Department. Duties will include telephonic and in-person screening, assessments, and individual therapy and counseling for patients to treat a broad array of behavioral health disorders, mental illness, health disorders, substance use disorders, and co-occurring illnesses. The Behavioral Health Crisis Responder will develop and implement patient-centered plans for care in a team setting, and will coordinate care among an internal/external multidisciplinary team. The successful incumbent will facilitate safe care transitions in the community and educate patients and families on treatment, symptoms, and response from psychotherapy.
Qualifications
- Graduation with a master’s or doctoral degree in mental health counseling or social work from an accredited educational program.
- Minimum of five (5) years of substance use and mental health counseling.
- Preferred candidate will have experience working with populations with substance use, mental health, and/or behavioral health disorders.
Licensing, Certifications, and Other Legal Requirements:
- Licensed Mental Health Professional or Licensed Advanced Social Worker as defined by WAC 275-55-100 or WAC 246-809
- Applicants must be licensed by the State of Washington Department of Health RCW 18.225, WAC 246-809
- Completed telemedicine training in 2021 per RCW 43.70.495
- Valid WA State Driver’s License at time of appointment, with maintenance thereafter
