Full-Time Automotive Mechanic / Vehicle Equipment Repair Technician II – 2 Openings!
Job Description
- Provide journey-level automotive, heavy-duty truck, and equipment body maintenance and repair applying accepted standards and repair practices.
- Maintain and repair Gas & diesel engines, electrical systems, power trains, wheels, tires, tracks, air & hydraulic brakes, manual/power shift/automatic transmissions, hydraulic systems, cooling systems, and snow removal equipment.
- Prepare new equipment for use in all highway divisions across the state.
- Install bodies on truck chassis, brooms on wheel tractors, mowers on tractors, lights, reflectors, decals, or other safety devices, hydraulic accessories.
- Install, repair, fabricate, and upholster auto/equipment interiors.
- Perform some automotive interior work for equipment.
- Install plastic/polycarbonate sheeting on equipment to meet special needs/requirements.
- Repair, rebuild, and maintain light/heavy equipment and components.
- Provide operation-ready equipment and inventory support for field staff in the construction, maintenance and other transportation-applicable applications related to roads, highways, and bridges.

- Knowledge of automotive/heavy equipment repair.
- Experience using techniques and methods to diagnose and solve mechanical problems.
- Skills use precision measuring devices and computer-driven diagnostic equipment.
- Knowledge to modify equipment and install aftermarket upgrades.
- Ability to read and understand technical/instructional manuals, repair, and maintenance information from websites.
- Ability to use and operate machines and equipment in our automotive/heavy equipment repair shop.
- Working knowledge of the design of automotive bodies and related parts and the methods, tools, and equipment used in their repair or replacement.
- Working knowledge of the strength and malleability of metals.
- Working knowledge of the principles of acetylene welding related to body repair work.
- Skills to perform complex repair, maintenance, and body work on automotive/heavy equipment.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Strength to work at heavy manual labor for extended time.
- Candidates with a Class A Commercial Driver’s License.
- When needed, we will need you to work in emergency situations and inclement weather.
- We may require current certification by the EPA as a Type I, II, III, or Universal Technician.
- High School/GED diploma, and
- 2+ years of relevant experience, or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
