Full-Time Automotive Mechanic / Vehicle Equipment Repair Technician II
Job Description
- Perform Journey-level duties in the preventive maintenance, inspections, repair, and rebuilding of gasoline or diesel powered, light to heavy equipment in the NCDOT fleet.
- Repair, rebuild, and maintain light or heavy equipment.
- Prepare new equipment for use in our 14 highway divisions across the State.
- Communicate with customers on a limited basis to ensure accurate description of complaints, and deal with suppliers to procure materials.
- Ensure your work area is clean and complies with all safety rules.
- Automotive/heavy equipment repair experience at the journeyman level or higher.
- Knowledge of ways to determine and solve mechanical problems.
- Knowledge and experience using diagnostic tools.
- Experience reading, understanding, and explaining technical/instructional manuals.
- A Class A Commercial Driver’s License.
- Considerable experience in the techniques and methods used to determine and solve mechanical problems.
- Ability to use and operate automotive/heavy equipment machines/instruments.
- Working knowledge of the design of automotive bodies and related parts.
- Strong knowledge of methods, tools, and equipment used in automotive repair or replacement.
- Working knowledge of metals strength and malleability.
- Working knowledge of acetylene welding related to body repair work.
- Skills performing complex work relating to automotive/heavy equipment repair, maintenance, and body work.
- Able to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Strength to work at heavy manual labor for long periods of time.
- We may require current certification by the EPA as a Type I, II, III, or Universal Technician.
- High School/GED diploma, and
- 2+ years of relevant experience, or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
