Full-Time Automotive Mechanic II
Job Description
- Perform journey-level in preventive maintenance, inspections, repair, and rebuilding of gas & diesel powered, light to heavy equipment in the NCDOT fleet, including engines (gas and diesel), electrical systems, power trains, wheels, tires, tracks, brakes (air and hydraulic), transmissions (manual, power shift, automatic), hydraulic systems, cooling systems, and snow removal equipment.
- Prepare new equipment for use across all 14 highway divisions, including installing: bodies on truck chassis, brooms on wheel tractors, mowers on tractors, lights, reflectors, decals, other safety devices, and hydraulic accessories.
- Knowledge of automotive and/or heavy equipment repair.
- Experience using techniques and methods in determining and solving mechanical problems.
- Demonstrated ability to use precision measuring devices along with computer-driven diagnostic equipment.
- Experience modifying equipment and installing after-market upgrades.
- Demonstrated ability to read and understand technical/instructional manuals, repair, and maintenance information data from websites.
- A Class A Commercial Driver’s License. (Note: If you don’t have this STILL APPLY! You can earn it through our on-the-job training within 360 days of hire).
- We may require current certification by the EPA as a Type I, II, III, or Universal Technician.
- High School/GED diploma, and
- 2+ years of repair work experience, or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
