The Challenge
We are looking for a skilled Automotive Mechanic/Equipment Repair Technician to join our Maintenance Operations & Fleet Management team.
 
In this role, you will:
    • Perform automotive, heavy-duty truck, and equipment body repair, maintenance, and repairs
    • Perform maintenance and repair of:
      • Engines (gasoline and diesel)
      • Electrical systems
      • Power trains
      • Wheels
      • Tires
      • Tracks
      • Brakes (air and hydraulic)
      • Transmissions (manual, power shift, automatic)
      • Hydraulic & cooling systems
      • Snow removal equipment.
    • Prepare new equipment for use across all NCDOT highway divisions.
    • Install bodies on truck chassis, brooms on wheel tractors, mowers on tractors, lights, reflectors, decals, and other safety devices, and hydraulic accessories.
    • Perform automotive interior work for equipment in the NCDOT fleet, such as the install, repair, fabricate, or upholster auto or equipment interiors.
    • Install plastic/polycarbonate sheeting on equipment.
    • Repair, rebuild, and maintain light/heavy equipment and components.
    • Provide operation-ready equipment and inventory support for field forces in the construction, maintenance and other transportation applicable applications related to roads, highways, and bridges.
    • Perform work during emergency situations, as needed.
 
What You Bring
    • Knowledge of automotive and/or heavy equipment repair.
    • Experience using techniques and methods in determining and solving mechanical problems.
    • Demonstrated ability to use precision measuring devices along with computer-driven diagnostic equipment.
    • Experience modifying equipment and installing after-market upgrades.
    • Demonstrated ability to read and understand technical/instructional manuals, repair, and maintenance information data from websites.
    • A Class A Commercial Driver’s License. (Note: If you don’t have this STILL APPLY! You can earn it through our on-the-job training within 360 days of hire).
 
Note
    • We may require current certification by the EPA as a Type I, II, III, or Universal Technician.
 
Education & Experience
    • High School/GED diploma, and
    • 2+ years of repair work experience, or
    • An equivalent combination of education and experience.
