Full-Time Automotive Mechanic II
Job Description
- Perform progressively responsible tasks involving the diagnosis, service, repair, and rebuilding of mechanical systems of gas/diesel-powered automotive, heavy equipment, and power tools.
- Operate the fuel truck.
- Perform skilled mechanic work on these systems:
- Preventive maintenance
- Brakes (air and hydraulic)
- Steering
- Tires and tubes
- Wheels, rims, and hubs
- Transmissions (automatic and manual)
- Charging, Cranking, Ignition, Lighting, Cooling, Exhaust, Air Intake, and Fuel systems
- Power units
- Hydraulics
- Air conditioning
- Instruments and gauges
- A complete set of mechanic tools.
- Preventive maintenance experience on 1+ of the following: light, medium, heavy-duty trucks, and heavy equipment.
- Basic welding principles and application knowledge.
- Experience diagnosing basic electrical systems and proper wiring repair.
- Basic hydraulic system repair experience, including component replacement and hoses.
- Computer experience used to obtain diagnostic and repair information.
- Ability to repair and maintain automotive/heavy equipment and diagnose problems using diagnostic equipment.
- Office skills to prepare paperwork for employment and equipment repair.
- Ability to understand written and verbal instructions.
- Agility to move parts and materials to repair and maintain equipment.
- Ability to safely operate equipment for testing purposes.
- You can work indoors and outdoors.
- Demonstrated commitment to a safe working environment by leading by example.
- You can read and interpret Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) manuals, schematics, diagrams, and sketches.
- Strength to move relatively heavy objects.
- Ability to work in emergency situations and bad weather.
- Ability to safely operate a state vehicle.
- Safety toe shoes.
- A Commercial Driver’s License with Tanker (N) endorsement. (Note: If you don’t have this STILL APPLY! You can earn it through our on-the-job training within 360 days of hire).
- We may require current certification by the EPA as a Type I, II, III, or Universal Technician.
- We will conduct a pre-employment drug test and background check of your previous employers for the past 3 years about controlled substance and alcohol testing.
- High School/GED diploma, and
- 2+ years of repair work experience, or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
