Full-Time Automotive Mechanic II
Job Description
- Provide journey-level maintenance and repairs of automotive, heavy-duty trucks, and equipment bodies in accordance with accepted standards and repair practices.
- Perform body work on all types of automotive and heavy equipment.
- Perform bending, straightening, and replacing of body panels.
- Mix, apply, and shape body fillers or other substances for body repair.
- Perform cutting, shaping, and installing of glass panels.
- Repair automotive interior work as needed for equipment in the DOT fleet.
- Maintain and repair:
- Engines (gasoline and diesel)
- Electrical systems
- Power trains
- Wheels and tires
- Tracks
- Brakes (air and hydraulic)
- Transmissions (manual, power shift, & automatic)
- Hydraulic systems
- Cooling systems
- Snow removal equipment
- Sand and prepare surfaces prior to painting.
- Mix paints with appropriate hardeners or other chemicals.
- Apply finishes to surfaces.
- Prepare new equipment for use in our 14 highway divisions, including installing, bodies on truck chassis, brooms on wheel tractors, mowers on tractors, lights, reflectors, decals, safety devices, and hydraulic accessories.
- Install bodies on truck chassis, brooms on wheel tractors, mowers on tractors, lights, reflectors, decals, or other safety devices, hydraulic accessories.
- Install, repair, fabricate, and upholster auto/equipment interiors.
- Working knowledge of auto body repair and basic auto mechanic tool usage.
- Demonstrated ability to shape, bend, and weld body panels along with the proper use of putty, fiberglass, or other chemical mixtures.
- Demonstrated ability to read and comprehend parts/service manuals along with parts requisitions and daily time records.
- Knowledge of techniques and methods used in determining and solving mechanical problems.
- Demonstrated ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- A Commercial Driver’s License. (Note: If you don’t have this STILL APPLY! You can earn it through our on-the-job training within 360 days of hire).
- We may require current certification by the EPA as a Type I, II, III, or Universal Technician.
- High School/GED diploma, and
- 2+ years of repair work experience, or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
