Full-Time Attorney IV
Job Description
The CalSTRS Office of General Counsel is seeking a motivated individual to work as an Attorney IV on the The Litigation Services team.
The Litigation Services Unit is comprised of a team of litigators and support staff, and is responsible for representing CalSTRS in administrative hearings, writ proceedings, general litigation, and other legal proceedings. The Unit also works in conjunction with outside counsel on a variety of transactional and litigation matters.
Under the direction of the Assistant General Counsel and general direction of the General Counsel or Deputy General Counsel, the Attorney IV (Senior Counsel) is responsible for performing the more complex and sensitive legal services in connection with various CalSTRS activities with broad discretion. The Senior Counsel does not supervise lower-level attorney staff but may act in a lead capacity over the work of other attorneys and staff. The incumbent is expected to litigate in the more complex areas of the Teachers’ Retirement Law, represents CalSTRS in administrative hearings and other legal proceedings, drafts advisory opinions and other legal documents, and oversees the work of outside counsel on pending litigation.

Telework Information: We offer a hybrid approach including in-office and remote work solutions with staff working on-site at our Headquarters in West Sacramento 2-3 days per week.
