Full-Time Associate Medical Director

Job Description

ASSOCIATE MEDICAL DIRECTOR
The Associate Medical Director assists the Chief Medical Officer and other medical services team leaders to supervise the medical staff, follow and monitor all PPIL protocols, and provide direct medical care to patients. This position reports to the Chief Medical Officer.
Essential Functions:
PROTOCOLS/PROCEDURES:
1. In accordance with PPFA Standards and Guidelines, collaborate with the Chief Medical Officer for the drafting, implementation, and monitoring of PPIL medical protocols and procedures.
MEDICAL STAFF SUPERVISION:
1. In collaboration with the Chief Medical Officer, provide for the recruiting, training, and medical supervision and evaluation of PPIL Clinicians. Oversee clinical privileging including:
a. Provide documentation that all competency requirements are met for staff, including, but not limited to, basic clinician skills and advanced privileges.
b. Coordination with Program Directors for specialized service privileging.
c. Coordination of regular clinician meetings/trainings.
2. Participate in the quality and risk management activities of the affiliate, including membership on the Quality and Risk Management Committee.
3. Supervise Lead Clinicians. Oversight of Lead Clinicians’ supervision of all clinicians statewide including:
a. Oversight of clinician onboarding, training, and scheduling.
b. Oversight of annual clinician evaluations.
4. Serve as Program Director of the following programs as designated by the Chief Medical Officer: for example: breast (basic), colposcopy, menopause, reproductive health conditions, primary care limited and sexual dysfunction. (specific programs to be determined upon hire) As program director responsibilities include:
a. Developing and updating affiliate protocols in accordance with the PPFA Medical Standards and Guidelines
b. Overseeing the training/education/supervision/proctoring and ongoing monitoring of health center staff
c. Providing ongoing availability of consultation when needed
d. Granting clinical privileges relevant to the service
e. Participating in RQM activities, including, but not limited to i. Medical record review and other program audits ii. Peer review iii. Review of required documentation (program complications, outcome/quality, etc.)
f. The Program Director may designate staff to assist in the performance of these responsibilities.
5. Supervise clinical practice of other PPIL Clinicians as needed.
PATIENT CARE:
1. Provide clinical consultation to the lead clinicians and others as needed.
2. Provide direct medical care including medical abortion, family planning, and other services as privileged a minimum of 2 days per week.
3. Collaborate with other medical service team leaders on efforts to plan, implement, administer, and evaluate PPIL’s medical services to maximize both cost-effectiveness and the patient experience.
FURTHERING THE FIELD:
1. Collaborate with the Chief Medical Officer and leadership to enhance and expand research activities at PPIL.
2. Support PPIL’s role in educating and training the next generation of family planning clinicians and abortion providers.
Other Responsibilities:
1. Undertake such other activities necessary to promote the furtherance of the goals of PPIL.
2. Provide routine medical chart audits in accordance with PPFA Standards and Guidelines and PPIL protocols and procedures.
3. Attend regular medical services and medical services core team meetings.
4. Collaborate with cross-functional teams including staff training, centralized follow-up, procedural abortion services, revenue cycle, and other specialty areas.
5. Participation in ad-hoc committees as needed.
6. Represent PPIL in external committees as needed by grant requirements and other community partnerships.
7. Through these activities demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to PPIL core values of access, activism, care, confidentiality, diversity, excellence, integrity, respect, self-determination, and stewardship; practice these values in relations with internal and external customers.
8. Other duties as specified.

Supervisor: Chief Medical Officer; dotted line reporting to the Chief Operating Officer to assure integration with health center operations.
Status: Full time, exempt from the overtime provisions of wage and salary regulations.
Qualifications: Current licensure as an Advanced Practice Nurse with a Master’s Degree and a minimum of 5 years of relevant clinical experience required. Experience as a Planned Parenthood clinician is preferred. Clinical leadership experience is also preferred.
