Full-Time Associate Hardware Engineer
Job Description
The Associate Hardware Design Engineer works within the Hardware Electronics Design group and will support the senior design leads in designing new electronic hardware products from conception to general product availability. The candidate should possess a good knowledge of electronic design as well as good time management skills. The candidate must be a great teammate with a “can do” attitude and be self-motivated.
Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
- Support the design team in the development of product requirements specifications and be able to transfer those requirements into a design specification document
- Support the development of electronic instrumentation products such as Temperature Data loggers, RF/Wireless data loggers (using Zigbee, WiFi, Bluetooth, NFC, ISM band, Cellular) as well as their supporting hardware
- Support third party design testing in accordance with applicable standards such as CE, Drop & Vibration, IP rating, DO-160, FCC, ETSI, PTCRB and any other standards as required
- Assist in product design testing to be performed by in-house and outside testing resources
- Support the completion of all documents required for engineering builds and product releases
- Take part in Failure Mode Effects & Analysis assessments
- Take Active participation and help facilitate the Product Development Process
- Collaborate with outside vendors and consultants
- Actively collaborates with other departments as required based on project requirements.
- Provide sustaining and manufacturing engineering support for internal/external based manufacturing operations
- Support the development of all hardware documentation required to release a product to Manufacturing such as but not limited to:
- BOM’s
- Schematics
- PCB artwork
- Mechanical drawings
- Component Drawings/datasheets
- Test plans
- Third Party Test Certification Documents
- Product Risk Analysis Assessment
- Etc.
- Assist with advanced tier 3 support for existing and newly-released products and assist with product troubleshooting/debugging.
- Have basic skills for mechanical design techniques
- Basic skills with lab instruments and equipment (DVM, Oscilloscopes, RF Power Meters, Spectrum Analyzers, Data BUS Analyzers, Data Acquisition Units, Environmental Temperature Chambers
- Other tasks as assigned.
Knowledge & skills:
- BSEE with 1+ years relevant experience or ASEE with 4+ years relevant practical ‘hands on’ experience or equivalent experience.
- Must possess good communication (verbal, written, listening) and organizational skills
- Comfortable demonstrating independent initiative, learning agility and collaboration skills
- Proficient with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel & Microsoft Project
- Experience with AutoCAD, Solid works, Pads or Altium, or similar CAD tools
- Experience crafting BOM’s, Schematics & PCB Design
- Capable of working with design partners & suppliers on time critical projects
- Experience using sensors such as Temperature, Humidity, Light & accelerometers is desired
- Exposure to electronic instrumentation design engineering and Wireless product design is a plus
- Exposure with the design of cellular based GSM/GPRS products and cellular based protocols is a plus
- Knowledge in the workings of SMS, TCP commands & TCP/IP protocols is a plus
- Exposure to RF/wireless hardware and network protocols associated with Zigbee, Bluetooth, WiFi, NFC, and cellular data is a plus but not required
- Experience working with Microcontrollers and firmware is a plus
- Working knowledge of (C, C++, C#), LabView, and/or Visual Basic is a plus
- Previous ISO 9001 work environment experience
