About the Role
The Associate role will cover a range of communications functions, supporting outreach to Capitol Hill and other key external audiences; content and partnership development; and special projects intended to raise the visibility of the organization and the nationwide Global Ties Network.
The ideal candidate for this role will have work experience in communications or external affairs in a congressional office or nonprofit organization. They should possess excellent written communications skills and the ability to provide support across a range of activities and initiatives. This role reports to the Senior Director, External Affairs & Strategic Communications and is a new salaried position on the External Affairs team at Global Ties U.S.
Essential Functions and Duties
- Develop resources, updates, and draft communications to support outreach to Congress and other key audiences.
- Support the planning and pursuit of communications campaigns to raise the visibility of the organization and leverage upcoming anniversaries and other milestones.
- Support multimedia and marketing projects, fundraising initiatives, and communications around organizational events.
- Support the management and content strategy for the Global Ties Network Advocacy Hub, including drafting materials and actions for the Global Ties Network to engage year-round with their Congressional offices.
- Support planning and implementation of our annual Advocacy Days and virtual advocacy and communications workshops.
- Work with the team on the annual preparation of Impact Reports and other advocacy factsheets; the Annual Report; and other communications.
- Coordinate with member and partner organizations on advocacy activities and events, and other engagement opportunities.
- Develop and support communications opportunities and content for Global Ties U.S. programs and activities, including social media content and toolkits
- Develop ideas and content for executive visibility and new opportunities for organizational visibility at key conferences and events
- Develop, pursue, proofread, and finalize editorial content for the website and digital publications
- Assist with creation and editing of graphics, visuals, and other designed assets to support communications campaigns and visibility opportunities
- Help steward and strengthen organizational partnerships and develop new strategic plans for partnership development.
Minimum Qualifications / Experience
- Degree in related field (e.g. communications, marketing, journalism, public relations, political science, international affairs) highly preferred
- Minimum 2 years of communications experience, including in the areas described above
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficient in MS Suite and other computer applications
- Experience writing correspondence, as well as content for email communications, websites, and social media
- Demonstrated experience building working relationships and partnerships
- Strong organizational skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects at once and meet tight and shifting deadlines
- Commitment to collaboration, teamwork, and follow-through
- Must be a self-starter with a positive, can-do attitude and a strong sense of curiosity and initiative
- Experience working on or with Capitol Hill a plus
