Full-Time Associate Director

Job Description

Who We Are:  The Gap Year Association (GYA) is a membership based nonprofit organization. As a community of gap year program providers, post-secondary institutions, educators, consultants, students, and parents, we have a shared vision of making at least a semester of quality gap time accessible to every high school graduate. GYA is the only national nonprofit working to coordinate the growing gap year movement. Our mission is to maximize the potential of young adults through accessible and meaningful gap year opportunities. Recognized by the U.S. Department of Justice and the Federal Trade Commission as the Standards Development Organization for gap year education, the Gap Year Association oversees a robust accreditation process for gap year providers and consultants. Our primary focus is on four core areas: (1) Research; (2) Equity and Access; (3) Resources; (4) Standards and Accreditation.

Job, Title and Location: The Associate Director will work remotely and must have a suitable work from home office space. This is a permanent, full-time equivalent position at 40 hours per week.

Job Description: The Associate Director’s primary responsibilities include managing GYA’s college credit program; leading membership recruitment and retention; overseeing the organization’s communications and marketing strategies; and delivering professional development and networking opportunities, including the annual conference.

Job Duties:

Membership (30%):

  • Works with the Executive Director and Membership Committee to implement an annual membership recruitment and retention plan to achieve membership goals.
  • Recruits, onboards and supports new members on GYA benefits, including professional development and networking opportunities.
  • Facilitates the process to accredit GYA members in cooperation with the Standards & Accreditation Committee and the Executive Director.

Manage GYA’s College Credit Program (30%):

  • Serves as the primary contact for Accredited Gap Year Program Providers and Portland State University (PSU) in administering GYA’s college credit program. Oversees student enrollment paperwork, submission of final grades, and financial management of the program.
  • In collaboration with Executive Director, hires, trains and supports a team of 4-6 Instructors of Record.
  • In collaboration with the team of Instructors of Record, provides oversight of course curricula to address organizational goals, university requirements, and evolving feedback from students and instructors.
  • Recruits additional Accredited Gap Year Program Providers into the college credit program and facilitates virtual student orientations each term with Instructors of Record team.

Annual Conference (20%):

  • With support from the GYA Conference Committee and a contracted Conference Planner, is responsible for all aspects of planning, developing, and delivering the annual conference.

Communications and Marketing (15%):

  • In collaboration with the Outreach Committee, assists with the design of print and digital promotional materials.
  • Designs and publishes monthly newsletters.
  • Manages the organization’s blog and social media accounts and makes general website updates.

Organizational Support (5%):

  • Serves as an administrative liaison to GYA committees.
  • Participates in bi-monthly board meetings when invited or requested.
  • Assists ED and Board with fundraising initiatives.

Required Experience & Qualifications:

  • Minimum of three years of program management experience within the field of gap year education, higher education, global education, and/or outdoor/adventure education.
  • Demonstrated success in marketing, fundraising, and/or event planning.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in digital marketing, social media management, and familiarity with WordPress and CRM technology.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office & Google Suite.

  • Strong leadership and facilitation skills.

Compensation: Salary range is between $38,500 and $48,500 with additional $6,500 in health insurance and/or retirement benefits. Three weeks of paid time off in addition to 11 paid holidays.
