Our digital platform, O! was part of Nataki Garrett’s original vision for OSF. It launched in 2020 as a creative bridge for our artists and audiences during the COVID-19 pandemic, and in the last year, it has become an essential exploration and innovation space for the organization. With the announcement of our ambitious 2021 Season, O! is now our fourth official programmatic space, presenting OSF’s celebrated artistry to a world-wide audience.
Now we seek to employ an individual with the passion and expertise to help us ground and expand our digital programming. The Associate Artistic Director / Director of Innovation and Strategy will lead the evolution of O!’s exploratory spirit, support OSF as we intersect theatre with other forms of media, and create a digital space for full free expression that is de-colonized antiracist, and driven by the inspiration and passion of artists.
With 400,000 individuals served by our live programming annually and nearly 10,000 views weekly from 50+ countries on O!, OSF is in a prime position to become a global artistic force, and this individual will be a key member of the team that makes that into a reality.
Job Overview:
The Associate Artistic Director / Director of Innovation and Strategy leads the curation, development and creation of new projects for our fourth programmatic space O!. They will build a digital producing team, and lead a larger cross-departmental cohort to produce multi-modal content within the repertory system. They will identify, hire and manage artistic teams in the development of transmedia expression and digital storytelling, and lead innovation efforts across the company to introduce immersive technology to all our processes. Areas of interest and experience must include immersive design, imagineering, theater producing with experience in film and television producing.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):

- Attends IDEA, sexual harassment, and any other anti-bias training and workshops as scheduled by the institution.
- Model and support the mission and values of OSF by:
- Operationalizes Equity, Diversity and Inclusion by implementing OSF’s values into organizational practices including systems, processes, problem solving approach and contracting artists.
- Leadership:
- As a member of OSF’s Senior Staff and Artistic Leadership Team, takes part in all strategic and operational leadership conversations and decisions, including development of organizational goals, visions and values, and resource allocation and budgeting.
- Builds and manages a team of digital producers, digital technical staff, and is the senior supervisor for all O! artists.
- Hires and supervises direct reports, ensures collaboration, encourages and fosters professional growth, leads the adoption of best practices and industry trends, especially those intended to foster artistic collaboration and to increase efficiency.
- Actively engages with and leads O! processes, including financial, and human resources.
- Represents OSF in local, regional and national scale, including events, conferences, speaking engagements and festivals as assigned.
- Develops creative concepts for O! programming and distribution.
- Works with the Artistic Producing and Production Departments to create and employ strategies to implement new media in the development of artistic practice and production practices in digital and repertory productions.
- Works with multidisciplinary teams, to deliver a digital experience by leading cross-departmental processes to innovate processes in production, producing, and marketing.
- Is a thought leader with high-level interest and understanding of new digital technology, including augmented reality, virtual reality, and immersive media.
- Digital Producing:
- Leads the producing of all O! content, including planning, budgeting, casting and hiring, and producing through pre-production, development, rehearsal, production, and distribution.
- In collaboration with Artistic Leadership Team, leads the creation and oversight of the annual O! schedule.
- Leads the process of digital capture of select repertory productions and engagement events for archival and distribution purposes.
- Working with the Artistic Leadership Team, collaborates on the creation and oversight of the Strategy and Innovation budget and aligns it with the artistic budget.
- Works with Artistic Leadership Team in hiring artists and collaborators for all O! project and works closely with General Management, Company Management and Finance on all O! and digital related contracting to ensure the timely and accurate offer and negotiation processes for all OSF artists.
- Works closely with Development to identify funding opportunities for O! and leads fundraising efforts to support Innovation and Strategy work.

- Engages in activities for Marketing and Development as needed.
- Other duties as assigned by the Artistic Director
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications & Skills:
Work Experience: Ten-year experience in professional art creation, including theater, film, television, and immersive technologies, ideally as a producer or artist.
Qualifications/skills: Strong organizational and leadership skills, proficient in Microsoft products, project management software like Asana, video creation and editing processes. Strong communicator in person and in writing.
Physical Ability: No requirements.
Other Skills, Ability, and/or Knowledge: Respects and maintains confidentiality. Avoids situations and actions that present a conflict of interest or a conflict with the organizational values.
Minimum Position Requirements: Regular and consistent attendance.
Hours Requirements: 40 hrs/week, ability to work a schedule that fluctuates.
Preferred Qualifications & Skills: BFA or higher degree in Theater Arts/Immersive Design/Film or equivalent time dedicated to these areas of expertise.
