Assistant Teaching Professor of Art (Foundations Specialist)

The School of Art at Ball State University welcomes applications for an Assistant Teaching Professor of Art (Foundations Specialist) to begin August, 2021. This is a non-tenure track, full-time position with the possibility of contract renewal.
Responsibilities include teaching a range of undergraduate courses in studio art foundations. Our program includes Drawing, 2D, 3D, and 4D Foundations. The teaching load for the specialist is four studio courses per semester, in at least two of these areas.
Foundations serves a wide range of studio and applied art disciplines. Ideal candidates will bring innovative pedagogy, with a broad vision of contemporary art and design and an interest in interdisciplinary and collaborative practices. Successful candidates will be fluent in incorporating digital tools into these courses and emphasize formal, technical and conceptual skills. The School of Art values a diverse curriculum which represents and emphasizes voices that have been traditionally excluded from art and design education. Ideal candidates will demonstrate a commitment to these principles and an approach that centers their teaching on inclusion.
The School of Art at Ball State has forty-nine full-time faculty and offers state-of-the-art facilities serving over 600 undergraduate majors as well as a growing graduate program. Programs at the BA, BS, BFA and MFA levels include animation, art education, art history, ceramics, drawing, glass, metals, painting, photography, intermedia, printmaking, sculpture, and visual communication (graphic design).
Housed in the Art and Journalism building, School of Art students enjoy over 57,000 square feet of world-class facilities, a nationally ranked animation program, the Atrium Gallery, and the Glick Center for Glass. Students and faculty work closely with David Owsley Museum of Art on campus, among the finest university art collections in the nation.
Ball State University is accredited by the National Association for Schools of Art and Design.
Minimum Qualifications: Master of Fine Arts degree in Studio Art, Design or related discipline, by time of appointment; Teaching experience on the college level, with experience in Foundations curriculum.
Candidates for searches must have current authorization to be employed in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of basic digital skills/experience with Adobe Creative Cloud; Fluency with time-based media; Practicing studio artist or designer with an active exhibition/scholarly record; Involvement with FATE (Foundations in Art: Theory and Education); Teaching experience beyond graduate assistantship.
