New Higher Salary: $82,011 – $159,922
The Challenge
We are hiring an Assistant State Hydraulics Engineer to join our Raleigh HQ Hydraulics team that provides technical expertise, guidance, design, and quality assurance to manage stormwater, riverine, and coastal impacts in and around roadways for the protection of the public, the environment and NCDOT assets at every transportation project phase.
 
In this role, you will:
    • Manage delivery of hydraulic designs for Transportation Improvement Projects (TIPs) and state-funded bridges.
    • Oversee and facilitate professional development of our Hydraulics team.
    • Provide project engineers and professional engineering firms with guidance on major technical decisions, policy interpretations, and study criteria.
    • Coordinate Hydraulics team design support functions.
    • Manage our Highway Floodplain Program and Flood Warning Systems.
 
What You Bring
    • Extensive knowledge of the organization and operations of NCDOT.
    • Thorough knowledge of hydrologic and hydraulic design practices and their application and associated environmental requirements to all phases of highway planning, design, construction, and maintenance.
    • Management experience leading professional team operations in accomplishing goals and managing 3+ permanent staff, contractors, and/or consultants.
    • Engineering experience applying engineering principles to difficult design situations and making sound recommendations and decisions.
    • Experience using advanced hydrologic/hydraulic design and modeling procedures.
    • Thorough knowledge of the laws, regulations, and policies relating to hydraulics.
 
Education & Experience
    • Bachelors degree in engineering, and
    • 6+ years progressive engineering experience, and
    • 4+ years of supervisory experience; or
    • An equivalent combination of training and experience.
 
Note
    • We may require registration as a professional engineer by the NC Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
