The Challenge
Ready to launch your career in transportation engineering and help lead the Smart Transportation revolution? We are looking for an entry-level transportation engineer to join our Division 1 Maintenance team.
In this role, you will:
    • Serve as assistant resident engineer supervising staff responsible for stakeouts and inspections of roads and structures in contract construction.
    • Promote a safe working environment.
    • Perform keeping records necessary for preparation of monthly and final estimates.
What You Bring
    • Experience reading and interpreting highway construction plans and contracts.
    • Working knowledge of general concepts, practices, and theories used in construction, construction inspection, and/or construction surveying.
    • Experience administering contracts and communication with contractors.
    • Knowledge of the principles and practices of civil engineering and construction methods, materials and equipment.
    • Customer service experience dealing with the public and other units in a positive manner.
    • Ability to understand, explain, and administer contracts, interpret construction plans, provision, standards and specifications.
    • Proficiency at plan reading, highway engineering calculations, and survey instruments necessary to supervise the stake-out of line and grade for roadways and structures.
    • Communication skills to communicate effectively with contractors to ensure compliance with contract, plans, standards and specifications.
    • Ability to communicate, establish, and maintain effective working relations with co-workers, contractors, and the public.
    • Ability to withstand extreme weather and terrain conditions while performing project inspections.
    • Skills to train, coordinate, and supervise junior transportation technicians.
    • Safety toe shoes.
Education & Experience
    • Bachelors degree in engineering; or
    • An equivalent combination of training and experience.
 
Note
    • Night and weekend work may be required.  
    • We may require registration as a professional engineer by the NC Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
