Job Description

Salary Range:  $40,750-$51,975 (Based on level of degree and experience. Salary may be enhanced by supplemental teaching.)

Job Description:

The Assistant Professor of Piano & Music Theory is directly accountable to the Dean, Humanities and Languages Division for the following duties and responsibilities:

Stay up to date with professional trends in the teaching field and help facilitate the continual change that may be required to keep instruction current and relevant.

  • Fulfill contractional obligations for full instructional load during fall and spring semesters.
  • Provide excellence in piano and music theory instruction within the Fine and Performing Arts Department for undergraduate students, including online courses.
  • Assist in the development and evaluation of curriculum as appropriate.
  • Utilize approved textbook(s) and other instructional materials as approved.
  • Assist in coordinating and providing piano accompaniment for Fine and Performing Arts performance groups (e.g., NWFSC Voices) and other College performance events.
  • Coordinate all piano master classes and community outreach.
  • Advise students, review portfolios, and act as a primary point of contact for music scholarships.
  • Participate in division recruitment activities.
  • Participate in college committees and work groups as assigned.
  • Coordinate and promote student participation in appropriate competitions, conferences, and festivals.
  • Engage in institutional service, professional development, and other duties as assigned.
  • Complete annual mandatory compliance training.
  • Assignments may be made at any NWFSC location within the service territory and may require physical presence.

Requirements:

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of a Master’s degree in Music Performance – Piano; OR other related Master’s in Music with eighteen graduate semester hours in Piano from a regionally accredited postsecondary institution required.
  • Proficiency with teaching technologies, including lecture-capture software (e.g., Camtasia or Kaltura).
  • Demonstrated evidence of professional development growth through participation in continuing education and other related activities.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • An earned doctorate in Music Performance-Piano or a related field with 18 graduate hours in Piano.
  • Post-secondary teaching experience.
  • Demonstrated success with online teaching.

All degrees must be from a regionally-accredited postsecondary institution. This full-time 9-month position is eligible for continuing contract status and is contingent upon board approval and funding.
