Ball State University’s Department of Chemistry is seeking applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty position available August, 2021 in any area of analytical chemistry.

 

The Department of Chemistry has a long history of focusing our efforts on giving our undergraduate and graduate students a high-quality learning experience in both the classroom and the laboratory settings. The university is completing construction of a new building for chemistry and biology which we will move into this summer. We incorporate problem-solving sessions into many courses, have faculty supervision in all laboratories, encourage cooperative learning, and provide numerous opportunities for both formal and informal student-faculty interactions. We take great pride in our faculty-student interactions such as our undergraduate research program.

 

Major responsibilities: include teaching 10-15 contact hours (8-12 credit hours) of undergraduate chemistry courses each academic term, depending on released time for scholarly activity; teaching assignments will include undergraduate- and graduate-level courses in analytical chemistry as well as introductory chemistry; develop an active research program in an area which complements the department’s existing research programs and can be externally funded; involvement in undergraduate and graduate students in this research program is expected; actively contribute to the intellectual and professional life of the Department of Chemistry and College of Sciences and Humanities, Ball State University, and the surrounding community; perform other related duties as assigned by the department chair.

 

Minimum Qualifications: PhD in Chemistry, Biochemistry or closely related area from an accredited college or university, degree is required to be conferred at time of application; evidence of potential for excellence in teaching and in research as demonstrated by at least one semester of part-time or full-time college teaching gained concurrently, or at any time, and a minimum of at least two referred publications either in print or accepted for publication.

Preferred Qualifications: Additional research experience; additional teaching experience; additional demonstrated excellence in teaching and research; develop an active research program that will complement the department’s existing research programs in analytical Chemistry.
