SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES
Located just outside of Seattle, WA, Lake Washington Institute of Technology (LWTech) was founded in 1949, and is the only public institute of technology in Washington State, that provides students with the latest cutting edge skills relevant to today’s workplace. LWTech offers 11 applied bachelor’s degrees, more than 41 associate’s degrees and 83 professional certificates, in 41 areas of study, including STEM-focused programs in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. Summary of Responsibilities:
The college is seeking a dynamic individual with proven teach skill and leadership ability to teach in its High School Programs. The successful applicant will develop, teach, and assess a range of English, College Strategies, and Advisory courses to high school age students, who have been unsuccessful in the traditional high school environment, to fulfill high school graduation requirements; assess student skill levels, monitor learning, and develop and implement classroom and individualized curriculum that serve students enrolled across wide range of programs; advise student; mentor part-time faculty; assist with operation in High School Programs; coordinate with other high school program faculty and employees to maximize student success in the program. This position reports to the Dean of Instruction, High School Programs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Plan and develop a variety of instruction objectives and experiences appropriate to high school education program goals
• Teach a variety of English, College Strategies, and Advisory courses with WA state regulations to high school students (age 16-20) who attend either Open Door or Academy
• Identify individual learning needs of students and make appropriate adjustments; provide individual academic guidance and advising to students
• Prepare, develop and deliver curriculum using strategies and enrichment activities that increase student understanding and retention
• Teach productive and constructive study skills, work habits, and core skills as identified by the college; model the communication and human relations skills required for success in a college setting
• Develop and maintain classroom routines and procedures, designed to minimize disruption and maximize student on-task time, in conformance with identified policies and procedures
• Evaluate student achievement in terms of curriculum objectives as related to subject knowledge; maintain appropriate records which indicate student progress and meet college requirements
• Follow disciplinary procedures as prescribed by the college and high school programs; deal consistently and fairly with all students
• Develop strategies and increase awareness to foster and support cultural diversity and non-discrimination
• Develop classroom safety procedures and practices consistent with local, state, and federal regulations
• Maintain a comprehensive knowledge of their academic education area and relate specific developmental skills to their application in the academic education program
• Participate in self-improvement activities in their instruction area and field of academic education expertise; attend and take part in department and program meetings and activities
• Develop and maintain community support for the academic education program
• Work cooperatively and productively with other high school programs employees in planning, supporting, resolving student issues, and providing instruction; promote an understanding of the college mission
• Regular and satisfactory attendance and punctuality; other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

• Master’s degree in the subject area or related field required
• Must have a valid Washington State teaching certificate with dual endorsement in English and/or Language Art
• Three years classroom experience teaching English/Language Arts in an alternative high school setting; recent teaching experience using a variety of methods, including traditional classroom and collaborative group activities
• Excellent communication skills and ability to function as an effective team member
• Demonstrated experience in writing program curriculum; ability to integrate curriculum with instruction, assessment, and learning theory
• Evidence of recent professional development activity; commitment to continued learning and professional growth
• Passion for and experience working with students at risk of academic failure in high school or college setting preferred
• Experience using educational multimedia technology; Proficiency in Microsoft Office software applications
• Demonstrated ability to work successfully with students, staff and community from diverse backgrounds

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Placement on the faculty salary schedule is based on an individual assessment of education and experience. This positions ranges from $67,978-$80,024 per year; salary is for an academic year (173 days) and as may be adjusted according to the faculty bargained agreement. Summer quarter employment may be available based on student enrollment.
