Full-Time Assistant Professor, Early Childhood Education

Job Description

Salary Range:  $40,750-$51,975 (Based on level of degree and experience. Salary may be enhanced by supplemental teaching)

Job Description:

The full-time position of Assistant Professor is directly accountable to the Director of Teacher Education for the following duties and responsibilities.

Full-time assistant professors are responsible to the Vice President – Academic Affairs via the Dean of Education and Charter School Initiatives and shall teach and advise students in full cooperation with other faculty members and administrators. The first objective of faculty shall be to provide the student with quality education through professional competence, effective teaching, and wise counseling.

Faculty members shall also stay up to date with professional trends in the teaching field and help facilitate the continual change that may be required to keep instruction current and relevant.

The individual filling this position is expected to lead the respective department with excellence supporting Northwest Florida State College initiatives and forward movement. This position is also a Department Chair, Chairs serve a 9-month instructional contract and are required to teach courses as assigned in the fall and spring semesters. Department Chairs may teach limited overloads in the fall and spring semesters per the approval of the Director of Teacher Education. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide leadership and carry out administrative duties as assigned by the Director of Teacher Education
  • Assist program and faculty and staff members.
  • Work with Strategic Communications on marketing and communication for the program.
  • Serve as a college representative in community organizations to enhance community awareness of the programs and college.
  • Provide leadership for and participate in recruiting functions, information sessions, orientations, career nights, and related events/activities.
  • Coordinate production of program-related reports and prepare and track accountability measures.
  • Develop class schedules.
  • Provide oversight for the placement and tracking of student internships and related student progression.
  • Serve as the faculty advisor for specific programs.
  • Fulfill contractual obligations for full instructional load during fall and spring semesters.
  • Provide excellence in instruction within the Teacher Education Department for undergraduate students, including online courses.
  • Assist in the development and evaluation of curriculum as appropriate.
  • Stay up to date with state statutes and regulations.
  • Develop, recommend, and evaluate programs, courses, and student learning outcomes, assisting in efforts to improve quality and increase student success.
  • Lead faculty member will be released from the usual teaching workload in proportion to other assigned responsibilities.
  • As lead faculty member, the teaching obligation will be reduced to accommodate program/curriculum development, accreditation preparation and assistance with other related program management activities.
  • Provide student guidance and support as needed.
  • Engage in institutional service, professional development, and other duties as assigned by the Director of Teacher Education, the Dean of Education and Charter School Initiatives, and/or the Vice President of Academic Affairs
  • Complete annual mandatory compliance training

Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education or closely related field or other master’s degree with 18 graduate hours in Early Childhood Education or closely related field
  • Early childhood classroom teaching experience required.
  • Demonstrated evidence of professional growth through participation in continuing education and other related activities
  • Proficiency with teaching technologies, including lecture-capture software, such as Camtasia or Kaltura, and familiarity with web-conferencing software to facilitate synchronous online student support preferred.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • An earned doctorate in Early Childhood Education or a related field with 18 graduate hours in Early Childhood Education
  • Post-secondary teaching experience
  • Demonstrated success with online teaching.
  • Experience in student engagement techniques preferred.

All degrees must be from a regionally-accredited postsecondary institution. This full-time 9-month position is eligible for continuing contract status and is contingent upon board approval and funding.
