This is a fantastic opportunity for a successful Assistant Principal or experienced Middle Leader to join Ark Boulton Academy where education experts are united by the same purpose – a commitment to making a difference where it matters most.

Our school:

Ark Boulton is a six-form entry secondary school in the heart of Sparkhill, Birmingham. We are dedicated to developing every aspect of our pupils, and therefore, we prioritise both our character curriculum as well as the academic.

It is an exciting time to join Ark Boulton as we embark on our journey to excellence. Our newly formed leadership team is on a mission to provide a quality education that empowers all individuals to flourish, be aspirational and make a positive contribution to their community and wider society.

We are part of the Ark network, a highly successful MAT with a well-regarded CPD offer for leaders and teachers at all levels. We are passionate about developing and delivering tremendous outcomes for students and invest significantly in our staff.

The opportunity:

We are seeking an Assistant Principal to work with our team to ensure that Ark Boulton continues to be the school of choice in the local community. This role will have a focus on rapid improvement of Teaching and Learning at classroom level. As such, the post holders’ responsibility will heavily involve the coaching of teachers across the academy, line management of subject(s) and supporting the Core SLT with monitoring and evaluation of all practices within the academy.

You will have excellent interpersonal skills, and a hands-on approach to providing support to improve Teaching and Learning. You will also be an excellent classroom teacher yourself. You may be at Assistant Principal level already or have sufficient middle leadership experience to step up. You will also understand the importance of working hard and developing a high performing middle leadership team.

As an Assistant Principal you will be involved in the development and implementation of whole school teaching and learning strategies that will help to establish a school culture that is both nurturing and joyful. You will join an ambitious team of seconded Assistant Principals from local Ark secondary schools to support Ark Boulton on their journey of rapid improvement with quality teaching and learning at the forefront.

What we offer:

  • Salary higher than the national pay scales
  • Twice as many training days as standard and network-wide events with Ark colleagues, held by the best minds in education
  • Coaching for every teacher
  • Access to the high-quality, professional development, including nationally recognised qualifications such as NPQSL
  • Opportunities to collaborate with colleagues across the network
  • Staff wellbeing is one of our main priorities. We provide breakfast for staff each morning, soup for lunch and lunch for those on duty. We have parking available, a gym on site and a well-equipped staff room including a pool table.
  • Our systems and processes for communication, marking and feedback and assessment are streamlined and the approaches we take are research led and based on the needs of our local context. For instance, at present we do not use traditional book marking across the school.
  • On Fridays, children finish at 2pm, giving time and space for professional development amongst staff.
  • Staff voice is important to us; we like to listen to our staff. We are always seeking feedback and input from our staff.
