Assistant Lecturer of Early Childhood, Youth, & Family Studies

Ball State University’s Department of Early Childhood, Youth, and Family Studies has a full time, on-campus Assistant Lecturer position available August 2021. Primary duties include teaching undergraduate students in one or more of the following areas; early childhood curriculum, family and community relations, youth work, grant writing and research methods, family stress and crisis, and other content areas related to children. The standard assigned teaching load is 12 semester hours (typically four courses, primarily taught face-to-face). Responsibilities also include service to the department, college, and university; and other duties as assigned.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Teaching: The Department of Early Childhood, Youth, and Family Studies includes programs in early childhood education, child development, child life, and family studies. It includes a lab school for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers, in partnership with the YMCA. Teaching responsibilities include instructing undergraduates, with a commitment to excellence and expertise in one or more of the following areas: family engagement and services, parenting, early childhood program administration, child life, early childhood curriculum and instruction, kindergarten education, youth work, grant writing and research methods, and other content areas related to children or families; supporting program growth and development; and, advising students about the discipline and career options. The standard assigned teaching load is 12 semester hours (typically four courses, primarily taught face-to-face). Major focus of the position includes: (1) background, knowledge, and skills primarily in the areas of family relations and childhood; and (2) ability to work cooperatively with faculty and staff to foster curriculum implementation, assessment, and improvement. Perform other related duties as assigned by the department chair.
• Service: Actively contribute to the missions and strategic initiatives of the Department of Early Childhood, Youth, and Family Studies, Teachers College, and Ball State University through involvement with professional associations and activities at the local, regional, and national levels.

Minimum Qualifications: A master’s degree in human development and family studies, child development, early childhood education, adult education/executive development and public service, or closely related field from an accredited institution by date of appointment.

Candidates for searches must have current authorization to be employed in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications: A record of successful teaching content related to families and children; experience in one or more of the following: working in an agency that serves children and families, certification as a child life specialist, classroom experience in early childhood settings, or holds or has held an early childhood or elementary teaching license. Effective oral and written communication skills.
