Full-Time Assistant Golf Course Superintendent
Job Description
JOB SUMMARY
This person in this position is responsible for directing and assisting with all golf course and grounds maintenance activities at the West Pines Golf Club. The incumbent also serves as Golf Course Superintendent in the absence of the Superintendent.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Directs and assists with all grounds and greens maintenance activities. Assists with the development of special projects and reports.
- Assists in hiring, training, supervising, evaluating, counseling and disciplining subordinate employees.
- Applies pesticide and fertilizers.
- Operates equipment used in golf course and grounds maintenance. Assists in purchasing equipment, materials, and supplies.
- Completes and maintains files of all required paperwork and reports including purchase orders, billings, records of chemicals and fertilizer applications, work schedules, employee time cards and monthly reports.
- Performs electrical, mechanical and carpentry repairs on occasion.
- Maintains golf course irrigation system including necessary water use records. Holds quarterly safety meetings.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Acts in the absence of the Golf Course Superintendent.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Requires an Associates’ degree in Turf Management or related field and five (5) years of related experience; or experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions to be able to answer questions and resolve problems.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of the techniques and materials and equipment requirements for grounds and greens maintenance.
- Knowledge of the principles and techniques and materials and equipment requirements for grounds and greens maintenance.
- Knowledge of the principles and techniques of golf course administration, especially as related to the supervision and management of maintenance operations.
- Knowledge of relevant laws, City ordinances, policies and procedures, and departmental and safety regulations.
- Knowledge of requirements/procedures for building USGA greens. Skill in chemical application for grounds maintenance and landscaping.
- Skill in operating general office equipment, tractors, mowers, maintenance and construction equipment.
- Skill in planning and organizing programs and tasks. Skill in supervision.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
- Financial Responsibilities: Make recommendations that impact the budget.
CERTIFICATION, LICENSE AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires a GA Pesticide Applicators and GCSAA class “B” licenses.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work is medium work and requires hearing, mental acuity, speaking, talking, visual acuity, and walking.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Incumbent works in an environment with heavy equipment and machinery that could result in bodily harm to co-workers or others.
