CITY OF ROSEVILLE, CALIFORNIA

ANNUAL SALARY: $136,000 – $182,000 DOE/DOQ

 

The City of Roseville seeks an experienced, motivated, and highly skilled Assistant Finance Director to oversee several of the City’s Finance Department Divisions and support the Assistant City Manager/Chief Financial Officer in managing the daily operations of the Finance Department and this well-loved City. The next Assistant Finance Director will spearhead several exciting projects, such as financial planning for Capital Improvement Programs and implementing fiscal transparency in online reporting. The selected candidate will have several years of municipal experience and possess excellent leadership, communication, and people skills. They will understand the importance of promoting a positive work culture, demonstrate professionalism and dedication, remain calm under pressure, and effectively collaborate and earn trust with all levels of the organization. The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal skills, support and develop a talented team of approximately 40 employees with three to five direct reports, and manage an approximate budget of $9.2 million. THE JOB

The Assistant Finance Director serves as a key leader in the Finance Department, overseeing three to five Finance Division managers and a budget of $9.2 million. This position will assist the Assistant City Manager/Chief Financial Officer in managing the operations and activities of the Department. Such activities include budgeting, financial transparency, accounting, accounts payable/receivable/payroll, investment and debt management, business licensing and short-term rental permits, special taxes and assessments, support of the City’s financial system, and purchasing and the central stores warehouse. The next Assistant Finance Director will be a part of major initiatives for the City, such as developing five-year forecasts for the City’s enterprise and internal service funds and updating written procedures and related training materials. They will help the Divisions effectively collaborate on projects and streamline communications between team members. Serving as a supportive leader and mentor is essential, as is possessing the technical skills to complete hands-on work.

 

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

The City is seeking a candidate who is highly knowledgeable about municipal finance, personnel management, and organizational analysis. The ideal candidate is familiar with overseeing budgets, accounting, disbursements, and purchasing, along with other key financial functions of a city. They are an exemplary project manager and can delegate tasks and priorities accordingly. Understanding the value of relationships is essential, as they will be responsible for serving as a professional representative for the Department while building and maintaining positive working relationships with coworkers, other employees, committees, City Council, and the public. Ideal candidates will be strategic thinkers with a solutions mindset and anticipate future needs and goals of the City.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS – Background and Education:

  • Six years of increasingly responsible experience in management of accounting, budgeting or other financial activities in a municipal or governmental environment, including two years of supervisor responsibility, AND
  • A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, preferably with major course work in finance, public administration, business administration or a related field, AND
  • Possession of a valid California driver’s license

 

SALARY AND BENEFITS:

The annual salary range is $136,000 – $182,000 DOE/DOQ. The City offers a comprehensive benefits package.
