Full-Time Assistant District Engineer – Entry Level!
Job Description
- Coordinate, review, and approve technical plans and drawings relating to driveway permit applications, utility encroachment requests/agreements, subdivision design plans and standards, and process for road additions.
- Supervise junior employees.
- Perform field inspections and prepare deficiency letters related to road additions and onsite inspections for compliance to NCDOT specifications for driveway permits, encroachments, and subdivisions.
- Work closely with our construction staff to administer and manage small construction projects.
- Experience applying engineering concepts to solve basic engineering problems.
- Knowledge of engineering standards, policies, and procedures related to transportation.
- Experience planning, developing, scheduling, tracking, and completing projects independently or with limited supervision.
- Customer service experience solving problems involving explaining complicated engineering concepts to customer groups.
- Computer skills using Microsoft office and drafting applications.
- Considerable knowledge of the principals and practices of Civil Engineering and highway maintenance methods, techniques, and the use and operation of field and office engineering instruments.
- Working knowledge of standard road maintenance and construction procedures.
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans, provisions, specifications, policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Ability to plan, organize, and schedule highway maintenance operations.
- Ability to make independent decisions.
- Good communications skills to effectively collaborate with co-workers, NCDOT staff, contractors, developers, local, state, and public officials, and the public.
- Ability to understand, explain, and administer project assignments.
- Ability to safely operate a state vehicle.
- Excellent organization and time-management skills to ensure permits, agreements, and projects are completed accurately and in a timely manner.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering; or
- An equivalent combination of training and experience.
- You may exposed to hazards including construction equipment, high traffic volumes, and heights over water or traffic.
- You will be required to work nights and weekends as needed for emergency and planned operations in all types of weather conditions and on uneven surfaces and slopes.
- We may require registration as a Professional Engineer by NC Board of Examiners for Engineers & Surveyors.
