POSITION SUMMARY:

West Chester University, a member of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education, seeks to hire the Assistant Director of Sykes Student Union for Sykes Union and Student Activities. This is a full-time position within the Division of Student Affairs, awarded as one of the “Most Promising Places to Work in Student Affairs” by Diverse: Issues in Higher Education for the second year in a row.
WCU serves approximately 17,000 students at the undergraduate and graduate levels, 23% identify as Hispanic/Latino, Black, Asian, and Native American Indian nations, and 24% are Pell grant eligible. Reporting to the Director of Sykes Union and Student Activities, the Assistant Director serves as an integral part of the daily operations of Sykes Union, providing supervision to various student staff positions, overseeing the event reservation process for the student union and is a contribution member of the Sykes Union and Student Activities Team.
Primary Responsibilities Include: · Serving as primary contact for faculty, staff, departmental, and outside conference groups on reservations, event planning, and coordination within Sykes Union and other campus spaces. · Administering day-to-day operations of Sykes Student Union including the support of building events, logistics, and supervision of building student staff. · Maintaining and providing updates to the audio visual and technology-based equipment with Sykes Student Union, ensuring equipment is functional and up to date, and assisting with end user needs. · Serving as an active member of the Sykes Union and Student Activities Team as well as the Division of Student Affairs. · Assessing project needs for the department. · Serving on various divisional and university wide committees. |
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: · Master’s degree in Student Personnel, Student Affairs, Higher Education Administration, or closely related field. · Experience in a student center, student union or university center environment and/or related student affairs/higher education setting.
PERFERED QUALIFICATIONS: · Strong proficiency in assessment within a university center/student union or related area. · Experience operating sound, lighting, projection and multimedia equipment in an event setting. · Ability to advise, train, and supervise both staff and student, including experience providing work direction and supervision. · Demonstrated experience with national higher education professional associations such as Association of College Unions International (ACUI) and National Association of Campus Activities (NACA), National Association of Student Personnel, Administrators (NASPA) and American College Personnel Association (ACPA). · Excellent demonstrated customer service skills. · Demonstrated understanding of assessment and student learning outcomes. · Demonstrated commitment to inclusion, equity and diversity. · Experience supporting technology used in meetings and programs, laptop computers, MACs, multimedia TVs, conference phones, etc. |
